Yes. Sansevieria trifasciata.

Cute plant! I don't see any reason to attach a cultivar name if it didn't come with one on a label. It could just be the species, S. trifasciata, that has been crowded/inhibited by small pots, to keep it small, which would prevent it from fulfilling its potential. If given a big enough pot, and otherwise conditions within range, you'll know in a 2-3 years.

Deanna, only if you agree to call it that. You can call your plants whatever you want, and I will not participate in calling any Sans a Dracaena. That's an idiotic thing to do with valuable DNA info. "They" have been doing this to most of the plants recently. Philodendons and Scheffleras are supposedly something else now. I don't believe their identity changed because their DNA was investigated.

If one has doubt, experiment to see for yourself. My curiosity has been satisfied that way.

I don't believe your Sansevieria is a black coral. Go to a search engine and type in "sansevieria black coral." Then, look at "images" so you can see a bunch of photos. Every "black coral" I have seen, especially in stores, has the same coloration as yours but the leaves are long and slender, not short and squatty. The short-and-wide leaves do tend to belong to the "Hahnii" variety of Sans, as does the coloration of yours. Or maybe it is a "black Robusta." You can also explore on Etsy to see a variety of Sans.

I must disagree with whomever said that keeping it in a short, small pot would keep the plant from growing long leaves, but if you put it in a big pot the leaves will lengthen. Sansevieria don't grow like that. They grow from rhizomes in the soil.....long "stems" under the soil that cause a new "pup" (a new future leaf) to come up through the surface. Sometimes, if a Sans is comfortbly crowded and growing well, it will actually break the plastic pot with a rhizome and pup, or it may grow out of a drainage hole. I have bought a couple with healthy new leaves growing out from a bottom/side drainage hole.

Don't know where you are, but I can tell you that about a month ago, one of the larger commercial growers (maybe Altman Plants) brought A LOT of similar Sans to Home Depot stores where I live. They were all marked Sansevieria Superba. I don't know whether that's what they really are or not.

Sansevieria is a Sansevieria. Let the Taxonomists huddle in a circle and pull each others nomenclatures, but I'm with Tiffany on this one............Maryl
