Thank you all for the replies!! Originally, I thought it might be a peperomia glabella but now after looking at several obtusifolia photos, it look like that is probably a better match. I've been keeping it on a console table below an eastward facing window w a blind over it (the blind slats are slightly tipped down so as to block the view from below while letting in as much sun as possible) but it used to be on the sill of an "uncovered" window with southern exposure. As, I write this, its striking me that the location might not being meeting its modest light needs. What do you all think? Unfortunately, it is already receiving the best exposure my house has to offer. If it should have more light, would using something like the Fertile Earth LiteStik House Plant Light help the situation? It definitely had more than 2 stems when I took it in & the stems were more like vines at the time. Then, the leaf damage started to appear & entire vines would get sickly looking and drop off. Aside from having a heart to heart with Henry (the feline blur in the photo who swears he's innocent), I also looked over the entire plant and soil& then re-checked it with a lighted magnifying glass but couldn't find any obvious culprits. I would be inclined to put the blame back on Henry (especially for those leaves that look like they have had their outer edges knawed off) but then there are others with damage that doesn't seem to be cat inflicted. It looked so full & crowded in its original 7"(traditional deeper style) pot that I ended up replanting it in the shallower 9" one it's in now. Apparently that wasn't a great call either. I kept the sandy dirt it was living in & filled in potting soil around that. Both mediums are very light & quick to dry out. Its always bone dry when I water which I'd guesstimate is about every week or 2 but I've never been sure about what watering interval is best. Once again, I would welcome any ideas, impressions, &/or advice based on the additional info. What sort of care regime would you all implement over the next few months if you were me? Thank you for the replies. When I look around the room, all I see is a ton of houseplants & the mountain of yarn stash for crocheting. Hence the screen name P&Y, lol. This plant is still in the same basket it came in 5 yrs ago, so no idea what type of soil it has. I haven't given it any plant food. Really need to get some for all my plants. It has actually gotten much bigger over the 5 yrs. When I first got the basket it was just 4-6 leaves. It is one plant, not 2 separate plants. The window is not true north, but a little more northwest-ish. During the summer it gets some brighter, direct light in the later part of the day. Downstairs I only have N/S windows. If I put it upstairs in an E or W window, I don't get to enjoy as much! I have a tendency to let it dry then give a good soaking. Seems to like this! Since I would like this to bloom, I think I will need to do some plant rearrangements so it can be in a S window. I have several plants that need re-potting, so this will be an all day event, lol. Plus I will get some new dirt & plant food. Would tomato food work for all my plants or just the hoyas? The forums here are fantastic! It's great being able to talk to folks about my plants & garden and not have them nod off or their eyes glaze over from boredom, LOL. Rene aka P&Y

Cheryl Yes, while jades can handle some soil as a part of mix, gritty/gravely mix is good - great drainage, air exchange. I think pruning depends on your 'vision' of finished plant. I personally like them potted single, with thick trunk. Others may have different likes. I like bonsai styles, but don't have enough knowledge... I would prune all of the branches - make them short; most likely I would cut off the thick one and pot it as separate plant. It is good time to do it. Yes to acclimatizing, especially if they were indoors for a while. Also if re-potting and pruning - I would keep them in some dapple shade/filtered sun to begin with (not necessary to bring them in), and keep putting into more sun every 2/few days (I don't know where you are). Heather Look for seedlings around, I just took these snapshots thru the fence - there is at least 20 seedlings on their side (and few holes chewed on them just the same!) : Heather, I wouldn't run out to find a bug spray unless you are sure what is eating the leaves and if it is really 'dangerous' level...it is fall after all, and plants leaves are falling off. It is most likely some caterpillar. You would need to see it to hopefully find out what it will turn into - some are beautiful and desirable butterflies, others are pollinating moths, and some are destructive. But as I said, unless they cause big damage I wouldn't use any chemicals. Bad bugs like Japanese beetles are gone (I mean adults, their eggs already hatched and larvae is in the soil - they get deeper as it get colder and overwinter there). In the meantime, you could be killing beneficials. The Hibiscus genus has several hundred species, one can make tea using flowers, some are used as vegetables, and there is a species used to make paper... Gill H. calycinum is commonly called St. John's worth around here IIRC... Do you have one of the large-flowering types? do you overwinter yours in GH?
