Anyone have experience with Micro-Minnies?
Comments (11)Judy, Maybe you found this already, but I was looking for threads here trying to figure out what to do with my 13 little Optimaras (never meant to keep them all) and I found this link to Rob's article on growing miniatures: www.violetbarn.com/library/miniature_violets.htm Sometimes I have trouble finding things on his site even when I know they're there. I did find the ones he lists as micros and I've never grown any of them. I have Twinkle Pink but I guess it's not as small as Twinkle Blue. I'd always assumed they were a set. Ebay has a much healthier looking Teeny Bopper than mine is. Mine's not sick, just puny. Ah, this big one that is the same color as the one that is probably (maybe?) Little Coral is marked "No Idea." It is blooming like mad. Maybe I need to try to get photos again. Don't be misled by Little Crystal's name. I'm thinking it may need a 3" pot. I seem to have grown Petite Blarney before it was registered. I don't remember it, but I don't think it's a micro mini. I have leaves again. There are some that you can kind of "stunt" with the little thumb pots or let them get bigger. A few are true micros, I guess. There are some that people do keep in a terrarium or "domed." This isn't exactly my thing but a thumb pot is a very cute pot. I was going to try it with what may be O. Little Diamond but then that didn't work out. I have a Smitten Kitten that could go in one. A long time ago, I had a little plastic "greenhouse" and that would probably be a cute thing for them. I don't know if there's anything like it any more or not. It came from Park's Diana...See MoreDoes anyone have a raised flowerbed this tall?
Comments (23)With a tall bed like that, it would seem to be difficult to reach it to give all the rose care needed for many roses. I actually liked the grasses in the first photo. Seems you would need some taller things to give interest, and textures/different greens would be good. An OGR rose I have really liked this year is Maman Cochet - a $5 sale bin find. I too am from Texas and it gets plenty hot in the summer tho it looks like you have a sprinkler systerm there. I have used grasses with great success in some of my beds....Go to a nursery [or if you are near Blue Moon Gardens near Tyler, by all means GO!] Get ideas, look at plants, ask garden center's opinions. Sky pencils are good plants, stay green, are tall and cylindrical...chartruese potatoe vines are a must in the summer - they would trail and look gorgeous there along with hot pink periwinkles, asparagus fern is good, trails, handles the heat just great and comes back in the spring. To balance, I have read that you should divide long beds into sections and repeat the same plants in each section. Some dont like them, but the double Knockout roses never stop blooming, always look good, a great spot of color. I have had good luck self sowing taller zinnias - they come up fast, grow and bloom and love sun. In spring.....larkspur is divine[lavenders, reseeds itself and comes back each year], and sowing poppy seeds in November will reap tall, blooming beauties in spring and they will come up every year. Edging in summer you could use periwinkles - they cant be beat, or lantana can weep and is perennial. Unless you have a gardner, I would think it would be hard to crawl up there and work on the plants every day or two, so a lush planting that could take care of itself might be the better option. I really like it - its a beautiful look....getting ideas and putting lots of thought into it will reap big benefits - I really like it! Also...some lighting for night enjoyment that could bounce off the grasses, shrubs would be lovely. Good luck! Judith...See More"Rosier Miniature Roses"
Comments (7)I was gifted a small rose bush labeled the same rosier miniature roses. They were pinkish with white spots. The plant was in poor shape and only had three blooms. I’ve since repotted and nursed it to health. I’m new to gardening and read most roses bloom in 6-8 weeks intervals. The bottom picture was it when I had it a week and the top ones are now. I’ve had it since Valentine’s Day and haven’t had anymore blooms. Does it look healthy? Does anyone know this type of rose? The new pot is about 4 times the size of the first pot....See MoreHas anyone successfully grown a 'Can Can' Rose? (Climbing rose)
Comments (42)It’s weird, I have one bush that really struggles, and the same bush that’s like 10’ away doing fairly well for the location (roadside)..the one that’s doing bad I blame on a maple tree that used to be right next to it..I just cut that tree down last year (hated the thing anyway) and the bush is doing a little better...not tremendously better..but I’ll know more after this growing season...this is also the bush that had issues with mildew (the healthy one never has) but again prior to maple tree being cut down...after tree gone, no mildew..it’s weird....See Morejohn lint
