Who's the person who has posted/lurked for the longest time here?
Comments (55)I've been an IT guy since 89 and found out about the Net from a friend at UConn in 90. My first ISP was Escape which turned into Mindspring. I was still using a non-graphical brower (Lynx) when I first came across this site. Things were happening very quickly in those days! Either Painterart joined a lot earlier than he thinks or I joined a lot later than I think but my sense of things is that I was here ~92. I was still visiting rec.gardens.orchids quite a bit but gradually began to realize that I had more to contribute to GardenWeb. I tried the odd compact flourescent in the mid 90's and I had tubes for a while in 99/2000 but I didn't get my first real set of lights till 2001, three 160W Wonderlites. I knew well before that that if I had lights the winter die off's would end or at least lessen. That proved to be very much the case and I have written hundreds of thousands of words to that effect in the six intervening years. Rock on, everyone. Comments (3)Ooh, I've always wanted to sew through a pepsi can. I mean just think of all the xmas gifts you could make. !!!! I realise they are trying to make it seem tough, but come on - would that really sell a machine. Well, actually, it'd probably sell it to a guy! I don't think those machines are all that good, they are trying to be an industrial, something gets lost along the way making them so complicated, IMHO! If anyone really needed the power of an industrial they'd be better sweet talking a repair shop that deals in both domestic and industrial. Those things are built to last and an older refurbished industrial (like a Juki) could be bought for way less than £900. Gave me a laugh though! Cheers, AJ...See MoreMarmoleum - Who has it, who loves it, and would you do it again?
Comments (264)We recently moved back to our home that had sheet marmoleum installed in the family room/kitchen over 25 years ago. Over the years the home has been used as a primary family residence, as well as a rental. It’s seen dogs, grandkids, and just about every abuse you can imagine. I can only remember re-finishing the floor as recommended one time. We clean it with water or a water/vinegar combo. Other than some half moon cuts from metal chairs without feet, and dents from heavy furniture, the floor is in amazing shape. It’s SO easy to maintain and clean and because of the pattern and color, hardly shows any dirt or spills. We are in the process of replacing it with new sheet Marmoleum and hope to get 25+ years out of the new floor as well. I love, love, love it and would recommend the sheet product to anyone. Fyi - our floor was installed directly over our concrete foundation. It does get cold in the winter (slippers!), but feels great in the summer. We have it in two of our bathrooms (also 25 years old) laid over plywood sub flooring, and the floors still look brand new. No need to teplace those!...See MoreTop load purchases in the last 6 months, who loves their machine?
Comments (17)Watch videos and read blogs and reviews and you won’t want to buy anything at all, at least that was my experience. Sadly, I had to. I did buy a 2018 Speed Queen. So far I’m the only person here to actually have purchased one. I’ve been using it for a full month and I have zero complaints. Yes, new washing machines have to comply with government water restrictions, and I live in California where they impose ridiculous restrictions on everything. I’m still experimenting with cycles, and we don’t have particularly dirty clothes, but I get plenty of water to clean the clothes with minimal detergent, the spin is very good to excellent. I, too, have limited space and this set of Speed Queen has improved that a lot from my previous front loader set. One thing to note is that Speed Queen has anywhere from 3 to 7 years warranty on parts and labor depending on model. Check other warranties. My advice is to purchase from an independent store with good service if something goes wrong, regardless of what brand you purchase....See Morelegomom23
