Flooring Design Dilemma

floor options that dont need grout

Hi everyone, I totally detest grout. We are doing an addition and will be changing floors and bathrooms. Any ideas as to what else I can use? I just know I dont have the time nor patience to clean grout daily with squeegee in bathroom. Currently we have faux wood planks

Would recommend LVT, we have this in our bathroom and the maintenance is really easy.

As long as it's not in the shower you can fix it, I have before. In one new house the final cleaner spilled a cup of coffee on the floor and it would not clean out of the grout. I bought a small jar of Grey acrylic paint, diluted it, used a small foam brush and skimmed over all the grout. It turned out great and lasted. The more you dilute it the lighter color it will be. I'd start light first to see if that works. With it thin, it will soak right into the grout then you could seal the grout. It's not a hard job at all.....

Matching a stain color means a lot of testing. The same color in a different batch on a different wood can be different. What kind of finish was applied. An oil based finish creates an amber color, where water based finishes do not---making a huge difference. If trying to match an oil based finish color with a water based finish, you will need a toner added to the finish. Hopefully, you will have several scrap pieces on which to experiment. Both with stains, toners, and finishes.

Do you really want the grout to be a feature? I'd go with the closest match to the tile, which is either the top or the bottom. If this is supposed to look like wood (can't tell from this small piece), then it's especially important that it not really appear to have grout, or the illusion is ruined.

I just last Friday had both my walls and floors (I have the same large format tile on the walls as well as the floor) grouted with Mapei Warm Gray. It's gorgeous, I love it on the walls, but somehow I'm finding it a little to light for the floors, even though I like and wanted a uniform look. Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy with how the bathroom is turning out, but I think I'd have gone a little darker on the floors if I had it to do over.

Sheet vinyl is the only thing tht won’t have individual pieces with dirt in between them. All pieced flooring has joins of one variety or another, and those joins are always less than easy to clean.

Grout can be cumbersome and need more maintenance. However, there are alternatives you can use for less maintenance. Vinyl planks and tiles are common alternatives that can resemble various textures and need less maintenance. Laminate flooring is another option that adds water resistance to hardwood flooring. You can also opt for waterproof hardwood.

LVT can be a grout free option, however, choose a style/product without beveled edges. Tiny stuff collects in these grooves. Use “rectified edge” tiles for minimal grout lines. That means sides of tiles are very straight so they can be butted up pretty tightly. In any case, spend money on subfloors because they are key to good installation of any flooring product and the longevity of that product.
