GE Cafe range - gas or dual fuel
Comments (7)Hey bb, I have the dual fuel and love it. But I would never attempt to bake or roast in the bottom drawer. I mostly use that to keep things warm or cook frozen food. For example, that's where I cook boxed appetizers and that sort of thing if it needs to be on a different temp than what I am cooking in the main oven. The bottom drawer takes a long time to heat up, and is so close to the floor I worry that it's not too safe to have it at a high temperature for a very long time. Be sure and give it 20 minutes to preheat that bottom drawer. The main oven, however is is very responsive. The main oven is great, I love the size. No problem fitting a turkey and some of the sides, The convection roast is powerful. The thermometer probe is easy to use and fail-proof. I love to bake and use the convection bake often, no more having to switch out cookie trays. everything seems to brown evenly. My old oven was not convection, and I'd have to switch the top sheet to the bottom to keep all the cookies baking evenly, and that always cooled the oven down. I have not used the middle burner much, but fyi that does not get a very high flame, so it is of limited use. All that being said, I definitely recommend it. I would get it again. I have had it for about 4 years and had a hard time finding a 30" I liked. It was recommended to me by a chef who had a small home kitchen. I'm remodeling now and am considering keeping this since I don't really have that much space on my oven wall. I like it that much. Hope this helps! Enjoy the new house :)...See MoreBosch Benchmark Dual Fuel slide-in vs. GE Cafe - fan?
Comments (7)I read another post here that said the Jenn-Air cannot be manually lit. We may be thinking of different posts, but the recent thread about that was not about a JennAir. It was about a KA double oven range. The other WP built single oven ranges (including JennAIr) can be lit manually. Does the Bosch manual really not mention lighting without power? If customer service is too lazy to get you a certain answer, the only way to find out is to download the wiring diagram. Unfortunately BSH keeps that info locked up so only their authorized servicers can get to it. Fan noise... you'll only be able to tell by seeing the range in action. Even if someone who bought the range responds with their own experience, this stuff can vary a lot based on installation and noise sensitivity, so your opinion may not match theirs. I can't count the number of posts where some people find the noise bothersome and others don't mind at all, for the exact same product. Runtime... depends on how hot the oven was, but expect it to be anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour after cooking for any oven....See More36 inch dual fuel range, wolf vs. cafe
Comments (15)If they still have the blue interior, I would not go with Wolf, especially with the corner fans. Wolf and their sales people always say it was just a few ovens or it was fixed long ago but several posters here have gone through several ovens. The are some threads entitled along the lines of “Are there any Wolf ovens that haven’t chipped?” There are class action lawsuits where the plaintiffs went through many ovens. The M oven was actually developed to deal with this issue with the removable bottom and the DF range was just redesigned to incorporate the elements of the M oven. Someone also posted here recently that Wolf told her they would only consider this damage cosmetic and would only fix it for the first 60 days. Yes it is probably caused by the shrinking and expanding of the metal but who designed the oven? How is this the customer misusing it? If the self clean is a misuse, they should not be marketing it as a benefit. I’ve used self clean ovens, cheap ovens haha, all my life with no issues. The condos we stay in at the beach, use the self clean every time the condos turn. Aside from that some Wolf ovens have had the chipping without using the self clean. This is why GE ditched the blue enamel. They told me when mine chipped that I must have put foil on it or done something to it. What? I could not get mine fixed. It was out of warranty at 4.5 years old and very lightly used. They would not tell me how much to fix it only that it would start at $800 and would only be guaranteed for a year. I just use it with covered dishes and no convection. The enamel is glass flakes so it isn’t good to have that flying around. I like the way the Cafe is designed but not sure about durability. I haven’t seen one I like better though. Some here like the Monogram. My range is 36” and I actually prefer an add on griddle to the built in especially being it is 36”. it leaves me the flexibility of still using the burners. I can use an aluminum overlay for great heat transfer, a nonstick aluminum or steel. The 2 burner overlay I use has about 50% more cooking area than a built in. You have a lot more heat available with two burners @15-18K each. The built in is 15K BTUs total. There are people who stir fry on these. I have picked up what I am cooking on the griddle and put it in the oven griddle and all. The bare aluminum will season over time. I am adding a nonstick though when we get back to having people over. This disadvantage to an add on would be that with a built in you can turn it to a certain setting and always get a repeatable temperature. I have a 15”x23” like this. They are a heavy thickness of aluminum. The steel weighs a lot more and the heat transfer properties aren’t as good making more of a zoned heat surface. http://royalindustriesinc.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=4_22_48 These are the steel overlays. They have a 4 burner but I looked at it at a restaurant supply and I couldn’t lift it! https://www.dvorsons.com/ChefKing/Griddles.htm...See Moremonogram vs cafe dual fuel range
Comments (8)Thank you all for comments. A few responses: Yes, I need 48” as it is a replacement and I need to fit it between the current cabinet spacing. Why in your opinion is monogram so much better than cafe? Isn’t cafe a workhorse for home cooking? I’m no professional but want a decent range, which is also why I’m not dishing out the extra $$ for blue star or thermador The microwave we have to replace is a drawer type and those are expensive... the monogram one is $1600 while other decent ones are between 1200-1800 Oven space I’m not too concerned with... again, I’m no professional so the current sizes in both work for me Yes correct, the second one shown is a GE monogram...See MoreZLINE Kitchen and Bath
