Living room sofa+chairs

Need to get basic/functional furniture for a living room --the space has a light floor, wood grey brown post and beam ceiling with green beams, a light stone wall; the adjacent dining room, an orange wall. There is so much going on I am thinking I should keep this furniture simple.... your thoughts?Below the space + furniture I am thinking of. I know it's just simple but... I can bear any more complexity in this space.

Herewith, 2 gray leather reclining chairs (functional, husband needs for knee surgeries) + sand-colored sofa and ottoman. Your thoughts? Every time I veer to something more dramatic it feels.... not right. Too much.

Yes, keep things simple. See if you can discover your style before you get or do anything. In that way, you will have a cohesive and unified space. Put in top search HOUZZ box different styles (one at a time) such as casual, rustic, transitional. I have an eclectic look in my place. I like things simple as well, but I still like to show my personlity with wall decor and accessories. Do you have a piece that can be an inspiration to you?

I can visual it. I like this photo as it includes the beige and black, but I think the rug could be colorful...a kilim, for instance?

I actually use a goldish tan as a neutral in our home. I have found it to work well with alot of colors. I love a creme color upholstery, but for a sofa used often, I know it would not work in our home. Really, a goldish/tan works with most colors. I have blues and reds with it in the main living parts of the house, black and red with it in my hubby's study/office, off white slips in my sunroom with a floral print (pillows) and the gold/tan as an accent color (pillows, chair, candles) and use aqua and ivory with it in the master bedroom and bath. We've used a paint that is a very pale goldish shade, not yellow at all but reminds me of the glow of candles, very cozy. tina

You could go a couple shades deeper on the Pumpkin, or do the entire room in the red (which would be lucious). Family rooms should be rich and comfy at the same time. You have a lot of light in there, so going rich would work well. Now I'll go totally opposite on the trim. I used to like "crisp white" but everyone has crisp white trim. It's frankly too stark against rich earthy colors like yours. I'd do the trim (if it were my house) in a Tint de Nigre' (which is a brown/black mix). It looks fabulous with reds and golds...I've just done my whole house in it and even my skeptical contractor now says he sees why. It's rich and unexpected, and wonderful. But if that's too much for you...how about dropping down to the lightest of that camel shade or going with a soft tan that flows well your favorites. It's so much prettier than pop out your eyes white :o) (my opinion only...not intended to offend, just to assist) :oP

Your pix look to be slightly panoramic, and therefore are not telling us much about the exact scale and size of your space or stuff. What are the measurements of the room? Can you rough out a sketch of the floor plan with measurements? It looks roomy enough for two seating areas, but we can't be sure.

I would start by simplifying the space like the green and orange need to go unless you love them do those things in the same color as the walls then you get lots of choices in furniture and accessories I agree really think about your style IMO the FP is saying MCM to me so check that out it is simple and could be the answer I really dislike recliners in LRs but a nice chair and ottoman is a good replacement . DO you have TV in that space ?I like simple and those color choices you hyave made can work and a I would wait until you have those pieces before a rug or any other accessories .

I think you are on the right track with that furniture. If you need a recliner that is a really nice looking one. Some of them are so bulky and unattractive. Did you source these online or are you able to see them in a showroom so you can try them out? I find it imperative to be able to try upholstered furniture before buying, or at least buy from a source that has a good return policy. Here are a couple pictures of rooms that I think have inspired use of neutrals. Maybe one or both of them will inspire you. :-)

Hi, this is a classic midcentury modern renovated after a wildfire with significant help from a designer.... the orange wall is part of a midcentury cabinet. The green beams are beautiful --and replicate the original. But I feel I've reached the max in terms of color.

I am taking to heart the comment on recliners, I do not really like them either, I think this is better: Still gray leather for the two chairs, but lower profile.
