Island preference (match cabinets or accent color)
Comments (53)We just recently did a remodel/redesign of our existing kitchen that is only 6 years old. I have always liked the look of a contrasting accent island from the perimeter cabinets, but wasn't sure if I had the courage to take that risk. I also worried that it might date the kitchen too soon after spending such a huge amount of money, but my youngest DD finally put it into perspective when she said it's basically the same as only putting out your best linens and dishes for company. Why worry about about 10 or 12 years from now (I may not even be here tomorrow) when I could be loving and enjoying it today? Since we were remodeling the living room and adding a fireplace, as well, we thought we would have the cabinet makers do the fireplace surround in the same finish as the Island to have the areas complement each other. Please overlook the new laundry room door that hasn't been painted and without knob and also the ceiling still needs to be painted. Perimeter Cabinets are Oak with Mahogany stain, the Island is Glazed Ivory. Comments (9)Love the French Gray and do not like the Oceanside blue with it. I would do the entire room in the French Gray and the only accent wall I would consider is just the front wall in the entry. it would not be Oceanside. Wait until you start painting the gray and you will see how much of a lavender undertone it has. I do not see the French Gray working with the colors you have now…the yellows and greens. You might want to reconsider the gray. Try “online” gray. It will work with Oceanside. And I would only paint that front door wall in the teal. Then you can bring it into the main room....See Morewall colors. need a change. furniture can’t be changed. ideas? you
Comments (7)I find it difficult to visualize another colour when the current one works but here goes... One option would be a warm ivory, pale pale yellow. Dial down the current colour a few notches. Another could be a terra cotta, burnt orange type colour. Dial up the gold a few notches. Not sure how that would fare next to the red in your kitchen though. Sorry I don't have actual paint manufacturers names and colours for these two options. Just took these pics from a House Beautiful book. I also thought a browny-pink could work. Very pale, too much yellow or grey in it to read pink. Something like Farrow & Ball's Pink Ground or Benjamin Moore's Silky Smooth. (On my screen, that's how they look. Might be very different in your space, with your lighting.) Depends on what direction you were thinking of going and how saturated you want your walls. Have you been checking out paint strips in the store? See what appeals to you there (blue? white?) and bring them home and see how they look in your space. Some will be a definite no, others might have promise....See MoreCurtain rod color choice - black with dark wood furniture?
