comparing costs of Sherwin Williams and Behr
Comments (14)How does the middle of the line on each brand compare? Cost per gallon? It's more useful, arguably more accurate, to price it out price per square foot, not per gallon. Read the label to find out how many square feet the manufacturer says the gallon will cover. Divide the price by the square feet. Coverage and hide are not the same. A gallon may cover "x" number of square feet, but the color selected will determine how well it hides. It's really not fair to make all-encompassing judgments about a specific brand of paint because many things contribute to how well a gallon performs. Every brand has positives and flaws. The color dictates a lot. In other words, the same color in another brand would not hide any better - so it's not the paint, it's the color. Prep of substrate also makes a difference. If prep isn't done correctly, doesn't matter what brand you use, it's not going to end well. Bathrooms are notoriously difficult environments for any brand of paint. The streaking is normal; it's called water whitening. It happens with lighter colors too you just can't see it like you can with darker colors....See MorePaint match from Dunn Edwards Smoke & Ash to Sherwin Williams?
Comments (14)Flo Mangan, oh you're good! Thank you so much! I went to SW and sifted through so many colors. I'll have to look and see if this made my cut. You are SoooOooooo right about light. Literally just walking from the color wall over to a table the colors were shifting like a shape shifter and I'd say, "Whaaat?!" and turn right back around, ha! This is for a vanity in the mountains and there isn't tons of light in the room. Will be interesting to light-test it! ci_lantro, I know! I LOVE those mirros and I've already 'reversed engineered' them in my minds. In fact, IN FACT, I went to HD yesterday to look for metal edges and found some great choices. Had black metal soot all over my hands and face, ha, and would need to find a way to moisture proof the metal. You can buy it on many places, houzz included, but the measurements are a big for my space. Lulu bella I love your name! It DOES look gray but I'll bet in the right light or non-light, or if the moon is right, or if it's the third Thursday in a month with the letter R it would look blue...or not, LOL! Thank you all so much!...See MoreSherwin Williams Paint Matching, are they really all the same?
Comments (186)@Jennifer Hogan We have compared SW's sample for Simply White with the sample we got from Home Depot for the Simply White (that we also have painted on the wall), as well as the trim that is from Kelly Moore (a local store) in Simply White. It "simply" doesn't match (pun intended). Honestly, the difference is so substantial that I can't fathom how they could consider it a match. The cheaper stuff from Home Depot is actually a much closer match than SW even got close to. Kelly Moore is the best match. SW tried today to match it closer and still failed. So, we are going to go back to Kelly Moore and pay a bit extra to get another sample in the eggshell (trim is semi-gloss) and compare it. Near certain it will be the homerun since they got it right on the trim, zero hint of green and all the trim has been painted throughout the house. I do appreciate it though & completely understand. I can even understand certain times of the day seeing more color but there is such a difference that my husband, who rarely notices colors, immediately asked why the walls were green and the trim was not. He thought I had bought 2 different colors of paint completely! It has been quite the saga. Long story short, the best thing to do when dealing with whites is to pick a color of white from the company you are using so that you know you'll be getting exactly what you pick, and not what they 'promise' they can match!...See MoreHelp with paint color-can't go inside Sherwin Williams for swatches!
Comments (15)They are wonderful here too Kris. I was there just the other day and they were working so hard to accommodate everyone through all of this! Nothing is as good as seeing the color in your own space under your own lighting conditions! Even if you have to buy a fan deck it’s worth the investment for now and the future!...See Morecupofkindnessgw
