Be a Sport - Tell Me I Have a Sport!
Comments (12)YAY!! This is exciting! Yes, the new bit is sprouted all from its own entire eye, so Steve, I will take your sage advice and separate it from its mom in September. How can one be sure if something like this is a brand new sport or a sport that's already been recognized/named? It has the colouring of Dick Ward but not the corrugation (because it's young? Might it corrugate as it matures?)...See MoreHosta of the Day - Paradigm
Comments (17)Not rugged looking yet, but I have no problems with telling it from Gold Standard or Paul's Glory. GS has a lot more leaves that are more slender, fading more in the gold region. Paul's Glory is a broader leaf than Paradigm. Perhaps its time for him to be up-potted. Just got another 50 lb bag of gool ole Canadian crab and lobster shells from Neptune's Harvest in Glouster MA. One man's trash is another man's treasure....See MoreMy oh my! Finally a sport? S&S doing something!!
Comments (6)I think you're all very right! It does look VERY familiar in this young stage, since I already have a 'Parhelion' and do recall the similarity! I think I have a pic. of it as a 'baby'!! Yep--that's it!! Well--I love 'Parhelion' so having two will be great, especially with one in the back and now one in the front bed!! I think it will complement the HUGE S&S I have in a barrel not far from where this 'sport' is planted! Thank you, all, for helping me sort this out!! Comments (3)Three out of.... how many do you have? Hostas are unstable, and if you look hard enough. which most people don't do, you will find some sports. You don't know if it is "reverting" or if you have a new sport until you grow it out for a few years. Not all of them return the following year. Generally the solid ones come back. I get a few sports (like 3 out of 90 hostas) each year, I only save the sport if it is something special I want to keep, (limited space here). You are very lucky this year to get those surprises. That is a good thing! -Babka...See Morenewhostalady Z6 ON, Canada
