Seems everyone is coming down with this variant. Fortunately although highly virulent it seems to be relatively mild for most. are you starting anti-viral drugs? Better to start them as early as possible or within 5 days. They are said to be helpful. Haven't heard of any doctors refusing to prescribe them. Friends who have had Covid took them.

I hope you have mild symptoms and feel better soon. Most friends have said it was the fatigue that got to them with this one.

Oh darn, so sorry to hear it. I sure hope the bride and groom dont get, although quarantining together on a honeymoon might not be so bad. It would be awful if one got it and they had to stay away from each other!

I had it in May. I felt unwelland had a bad cough and fatigue for about five days and since then ive been fine.

Im glad the wedding was fun. I hope anyone who got infected recovers quickly. Wonder who brought it on board?

I came down with it the 4th of July. Hubs & I shared a bed, a 2 hour car ride returning home and at 3 am I woke up with the chills. Immediately tested and it was positive. Hubs proceeded to move to the guest bedroom. He stayed home from work on the 5th, but went in on the 6th. He masked up and stayed in his office alone. And THANKFULLY he NEVER got sick.

We've both been vaccinated & boosted. So there's that. There's hope that your hubs will not get it. Crossing my fingers for him. And hope you're feeling better soon!

I think my son's girlfriend was patient 0. She came down with it the week before, and we followed CDC guidelines and she quarantined for 5 days and he slept out in the RV as all the bedrooms were taken. But she was feeling well by the wedding, and then we all came down with the next day. Maybe she should have quarantined for longer. The bride and groom had it one month ago, so didn't test positive. I've worked with CV patients for 2.5 years and was pretty proud of myself for staying healthy. I'm taking my first sick days in 19 years, although I feel as if I could work but my hospital requires quarantine. Maybe I can get the house cleaned up with my extra days off!

If you got sick in the middle of your celebrations I doubt very much that is where you contracted it. It does take time to incubate and show up in your system. You may well have been the super spreader all by yourself, however. Mild symptoms is the norm. It's part of life and really not a huge deal anymore.

So sorry to hear that you and others have gotten sick. My neighbor told me he got it after vacationing in HI. He's in his 60s and Type 1 diabetic and got quite ill. He did get the treatment and started feeling better almost immediately. So there's that to keep in mind.

Another gal I know got it after her knitting group...it was 8 women and others in the group got sick as well. She's 3 weeks out and still has a lingering cough.

But the wedding sounds lovely and I hope all the rest stay well.

My neighbour got home this weekend from a vacation in Boston. The following day she arrived, she got it. She's masked from when she left in the taxi, on the plane and when she arrived.

She got a very mild version but tested positive. The next day her friend got it, then her husband, all mild. So her 2-week vacation was in quarantine. She did get out to see whale-watching at the tail end of her stay.

I was pretty surprised to hear the words out of a physicians mouth recently... it boils down to, we won't die from COVID now. They followed it up with, that's the difference between now and 2 years ago (when it was a big deal). They're right.

There are so many tools to combat it, so yes, unlikely to be deadly. Not fun, but far less worrisome.

So are the new tools preventing long Covid?

There's not enough information yet. But dangit, I hope they're making strides ;)

Update on me, today. I feel back to normal today. I will take a test and see if I'm negative later on. So thankful I got my booster before the wedding. Just found out the grooms sister also got sick, as did her partner but all are vaxxed.

This reminds me of a fashion show I went to that had a buffet, and lots of people got food poisoning from eating the chicken, or something in the buffet.

Has the first (and deadly) CV gone away? Do people no longer get it, but only the new variants instead?

Thankfully no food poisoning, the chef was fantastic and everyone raved about the food. I think the fact that the majority of people are vaccinated and/or have had covid previously has weakened the virus significantly. I was listening to NPR last week and they said that there were about 65 people in the ICU with covid in Wisconsin, so the possibility is still there unfortunately.

I will post pics sometime, but the wedding was so unique. They originally got married in November of 2019 and were going to do their celebration in July 2020. We thought we were being responsible by delaying it, but this sub variant got the best of us. So far it is all the people closest to us, staying in our house or close family, that got sick.

The bride and groom are huge game players, like board games not online. So the wedding started on Friday with a laser tag game through our woods and then a pizza party. About 40 people played and they had a blast. The centerpieces were made by the bride and groom's sister, who actually won first place at the Chelsea (London) flower show in 1994 as a teen. As an example--there is a game called Pandemic and what they did is they placed on the game board on the table and then made a coronavirus flower arrangement with red and white and flowers that looked like the virus. They had a monopoly centerpiece that they made in a black top hat like the monopoly top hat. For candyland, they used a gum ball machine filled with candy and the flower arrangement coming out of that. For clue, they took an old typewriter and filled it with flowers. Best wedding flowers I've ever seen.

The food was from a local chef with dishes like salmon with blueberries and chicken thighs with a Scottish whiskey sauce (groom is from the UK). There was a cauliflower, turmeric, garbanzo bean salad, fresh locally sourced greens, mangalista (sp?) pork from a local farmer, a risotto to die for and much more. The cake was beautiful and covered with meeples, which are a little person like character from one of their favorite board games.

There were games set up all over the yard to play and one of the favorites was hammerschlagen, which is a game that you play with a huge tree stump and people stand around the stump and try to hammer other player's nails into the stump. If you use your dominant hand you must throw the hammer in the air so it rotates and when you catch it you try to hit a nail. If you use your non dominant hand you don't have to throw it in the air. That was a huge hit.

On Sunday we had a brunch with bagels and cream cheese, eggs benedict, poached salmon, and fruits cheese and yogurt. Then we had a bags (cornhole) tournament, which was a blast.

It really was an epic weekend.

i felt what i thought was a head cold coming on last wednesday. by thursday, it seemed to be going to my chest so i headed to the clinic because the last time this happened, i ended up with a raging bronchitis that put me in the hospital for 2 days.

i was shocked when i tested positive because i am a virtual hermit and the only places i had been in the past couple of months was one trip to the foot doctor and once or twice to the vet. everything else was strictly curbside pick up.

dr. prescribed the usual prednisone to prevent another hospital visit and i started it immediately. by friday, i was feeling much better, just more tired than usual but no more sore throat or headache. by saturday, i was pretty much back to normal. dr. said isolation now is only 5 days but i am giving it the full 2 weeks before i do any in-person visiting with family. my mother-in-law, at 92, has been suffering from covid long haulers for 2 years now and i'm not taking ANY chances on possibly infecting her.

i had both of the original vaccines plus both boosters and i'm satisfied that is why i had such mild symptoms. my neighbor down the lane had the original vaccinations but didn't get the boosters. she tested positive the day after i did and she has been flat on her back, sicker than a dog for the last 5 days. talked to her this morning and she is still feeling pretty awful.

Those that do not vaccinate will have the worst symptoms. My lifetime friend refused and she died 6 months ago, A healthy 62 year old. When was going to be vented...... she said "I will vaccinate if I survive this" so very sad.

We have had four deaths in our sparsely populated rural county recently. I suppose people who wont vaccinate. I hope that is the problem. I need to get my second booster.

The wedding sounds like it was great fun. Best wishes for everyone's quick recovery from resulting (?) illness. Coincidentally, DH and I got our 2nd boosters today. We didn't get them earlier because we were still mostly socially isolating, but seems like now is a good time to catch up regardless of how careful you are trying to be.

We had it for the first time back in May when a surge went through. Lots of people we knew got it. Dd was exposed again a couple of weeks ago and had a mild case of something, but didn't test positive. Lots of other people were also exposed and several caught it. Dh and I avoided whatever it was. We've all been vaccinated. Hopefully, we have some immunity at this point.

So glad I asked. That was no ordinary wedding weekend! I hope you had lots of help setting it all up...and clearing away. I'm very happy you got the celebration in before the virus hit. Darn thing is said to be 100 times more contagious than the original Covid. It could take less of a toll due to vaccines (when utilized) and new medications and protocols developed to fight it.

Yep, it's flying around. Daughter had it twice, son/ his wife/daughter/his MIL had it. All had variety of symptoms, but nothing drastic. I'm watching my granddaughter who currently has it until Monday.

CNN is reporting that the president has tested positive with mild symptoms, so far.

The people who have the worst trouble with it usually have other co-morbidities. Overweight. Diabetic. Other health related problems. I had the original...prior to the variants and had no problems with it. I had a hoarse cough...no fever. No fatigue. Temporary loss of taste. I am not vaccinated. There is a list of supplements recommended to help with or prevent it. I am on those, and I believe they helped me. My only factor is being old, but I am not over weight by more than 10 lb and I don't have other health issues.

Marilyn, I've haven't seen much of a difference between vac and unvac in the people I've know who got it. I'm also unvac and take the prevention supplements. Knock on wood, if I've had it I didn't know. My unvac daughter got it in January. Woke up on a Tuesday with a high fever and very fatigued. I took her a 7 day dose of the current active doses, which are higher than the preventive doses. The next day she was feeling not a 100%, but much improved. By Saturday she was back to her old self and wished she could go back to work.

Marilyn and Function, my daughter and hubby and their family are on the preventive supplements also and unvaxed. He had a little sore throat...which is not uncommon for his allergies... tested negative, so they drove 9 hours to visit their family...next evening he had a slight cough and tested positivè. Their son caught it and just had runny nose. Daughter and hubby drove together the 9 hours back home but she never caught it from him. She did the preventive plan and everyone who tested positive got along fine. My unvaxed DIL was with her mother for three days taking care of her and never got it... DIL also was on preventive plan. ..made a believer out of me! But since I am old and have so many autoimmune diseases, I chose the vaccines and boosters.
