lamp shade questions
I had a specific lamp in mind for my recently refinished nightstand. I wanted a bunny but not a cutesy one. Something simple but elegant. After looking around in every corner of the internet, I found what I hope is the perfect lamp. It is crackle glaze with a cool brass arm. Only issue is that it doesn't come with a shade. The table is 20 inches across and the lamp base is 9.5". Even if it looks dreadful where I plan to put it, I will keep it anyway because, A) I love it. and B) I'm pretty sure it is a no return since it is Ebay.
Oh, and I've already bought it so ixnay on the atehay comments.

As I look at this, I do wonder if it will look like the bottom is a cage, but it will likely be filled with throw blankets or books. I also want some sort of plate? box? bowl next to it.

Comments (12)Thanks! I am not one for delayed gratification, so I went to The Lamplighter this morning when they opened :-) Parking was not a problem, and there was no line at the shop. You are right that the woman is no-nonsense, but she was tickled to hear that I had found her family-owned shop through an online decorating forum. We played around with several options and ultimately went with a slightly smaller harp and slightly larger shade in an oiled paper material with a cute fleur-de-lis finial (see pic). And the good news is, it was already wired for a three-way bulb! That said, not a lot of reading happens in that seat on the couch, because the dog generally claims it. Comments (14)Plain bamboo shades might as well not be there at night when the light is on. Folks can't see in during the day when they are closed, but at night when they are back lit, practically see-through. I know this from personal experience. I tried bamboo shades in my living room that faced the street, and checked out the level of see through from the street at night. Not private at all. I’m a pleated shade fanatic, but can’t stand the kind with the metal piece showing on top. I’d look for one without that.

I tend to prefer lampshades that alloe light to get through. I would, for my personal taste (and I have a Cantonese blue lamp similar to yours), avoid the somber, serious MCM or subdued architectural. I see that the cupboard is dark, the capeting neutral, the walls neutral. I can’t recall what the rest of the room is like. I would want to brighten it up and counter the dark and neutrals with more of the lively playfulness your bunny speaks to.
If it’s not to be a masculine or sombre room, I would go with something cheerful, playful, sweet (not too sweet, not too matchy) like the floral that carolb offered.
Or the autumnal floral.
Or, if you want more designer,
The first one would let more light pass through the shade.
