Any ideas to update 80s yellow/peach brick ranch?
Comments (17)Wow! Thanks so much for the great ideas! I never thought about using such bright colors like that DE green hour or blue for the door. I would have never thought of it myself...and I really like it! I love pops of color but i’m always scared to take the leap! Not sure why. Lol I guess it’s cause it’s our first place and it feels risky, but in the end I really should just think of it as paint. I can always change it up! Thanks for paint color suggestions as well, sometimes it’s overwhelming to see so many colors. It’s nice to know what has worked for others who’s homes have the same color palette! I really love the dark trim ideas (for now, our windows have a light color screen over them, but the window itself is actually a dark brown/bronze) and landscaping ideas- I never thought something as simple as deepening flower beds would have such a dramatic effect! Thanks Dig Doug! Our flower beds are pretty shallow and rectangular, the curved beds are a fabulous idea! NHbabs and debbie1000 I totally agree about the tree between the windows and the narrow walkway (its mix matched half with river rock half smooth concrete), they are definitely on the ‘to do’ list. emmarie- I love your idea of the trim on the left window, I agree it needs some bulking up to match the others. I really like your post idea, and i know it’s hard to see from my photo, but it’s acually a brick wall. Right now removing is probably more than we’d like to do, but it would definitely give it a more open feeling. Love your rendering makes my house look cute! Definitely has me thinking about that blue door color! I’m not able to upload more pictures of the house since I’m currently on a trip, but when I get back I’ll upload more, but I can’t say THANK YOU enough. The pictures you all posted definitely have my creative wheels turning! I feel like I now have some direction in looking up design ideas. We’re not in a huge rush to redo our home, but i’ll definitely keep everyone posted with picture updates as we make changes here and there so you can see how we implemented your ideas and suggestions. Thank you again for taking the time to help us out! I really didn’t think i’d have this many people respond in just one day. You guys are AMAZING!!...See MoreHow to compliment red brick in raised ranch make over
Comments (3)We have a raised ranch with brick veneer on the bottom and vinyl siding above. Our roofline is different, so it doesn't look quite so raised-ranch-ish. Our siding is a yellowish cream color with brick red shutters that complement the brick. But with your gray roof, I don't know if that combination would work for your house (our roof is brown). Definitely think about removing that archway and widening the front entry. A portico would be a good addition as well....See MoreHow to update this 80's ranch with midcentury modern style.
Comments (14)That bow window is a significant challenge because the masonry follows the curve. I would remove the whole wall and replace with a huge window that follows the line of the roof. I also removed shutters and opened that front gable, replaced doors and garage doors with wood, replaced exterior sconces, enlarged the stoop and poured a walkway to the drive, painted the side door casing and downspouts to match the siding so they disappear. Sorry I didn't have time to find a better place for the garbage cans....See MoreHow to update a 60s Ranch Exterior
Comments (11)Where does each front door lead? To me, it looks like the door in the middle was the original front door and it would lead to living area. The door to the left looks like it leads to a utility area. Have you changed the interior uses? Agree with housegal that the landscaping needs to be trimmed way back, it is serving as a barrier now rather than an open landscape plan to bring people to the front of your home. The high contrast white trim on the doors against the red siding draws all the focus. Changing exterior doors needs to relate to the interior floorplan. Where do you want people to come inside? Most don't want to have the utilities areas front and center; however, the owners inadvertently lead people right to the utility areas by highlighting that entrance (such as garage doors and side doors). Right now, your utility doors are bright white against a dark red siding. You can change that by blending your garage door color with the siding or having it darker than the siding so it doesn't stand out to accentuate your garage door. Same with your utility door. Color works wonders. You can use an accent color for your intended front door. And landscaping that works with your home....See MoreKathleen Ryan
