Sorry I didn't see this till just now, Palimpsest. I've been at fine stores everywhere. I think Redecor8 is on to something. I vaguely remember a room with a wall treatement like that, but I don't remmeber where I saw it, which tells me it wasn't in a book or magazine. Those I can always remember. And it must be fairly new, done by someone working in traditional style, since I'd never seen that particular technique before. I can think of engraved mirrors & reverse-painted mirrors with Chinoiserie scenes, but not this scratch-off technique. The bad part is that wherever I saw it, I wasn't taken enough with it to save a picture. But it's almost bedtime, so maybe the designer's name will come to me once I start shutting down--if, that is, I registered it at all when I first saw it. If I did, it should come back. It sounds stupid, I know, but that half-there state is when your brain starts playing connect-the-dots and most of the time, I wake up with an answer. That doesn't, of course, guarantee that it's a good answer. A Nyquil-induced stupor one time when I was sick is what gave me the idea for my dripping-plaster table. It's also how I once invented a new kind of sump pump that, as water pressure coming up from below--as in a flooding storm sewer during a flash flood during a sudden storm--built up beyond what's normal, would seal even tighter than normal, preventing the water's upward force from overpowering the mechanism. I don't know how to explain the reciprocating-force gizmo my brain came up with while I was asleep, but I could see it as clear as anything, and when I drew it & showed it to a civil engineer pal, he said that it was an ingenious device whose main flaw was that it was too efficient, and that, instead of allowing water to seep in around the failing seal as the pressure built up, it would seal so tight that, eventually, the whole basement floor would erupt like a concrete volcano, destroying the entire house instead of just flooding the basement. Then again, I never claimed that it was a perfect solution. Anyway, none of that really helps with your question, but it does show that our brains work round-the-clock, so maybe I'll remember where I saw that wall treatment after all. Of course I am not being overly sensitive but just more aware of the fact that the paint color combination etc is not liked well, so whereas before I was chill about keeping it the way it was despite disliking it myself, now after hearing from so many ppl , I do want to go ahead and change it. oakton mom: yes I do plan on lamps on buffet. We own the house, not rent. I went to a kirkland store , it was in a strip mall next to bed bath and beyond. It wasn’t Costco. Yes I do live in USA. The only reason I am considering buying art is because it has something written of significance which I m not finding here In USA. Maybe a few online vendors but not exactly the same. This has paint, glass and beadwork , geode, bringing in that pop of color I want... Flo Mangan: yes!! That is part of the reason that the marble table is actually built in , and can’t and won’t move, and we do not want Workman standing on top of it to install the chandelier ... and loobab: you are right! It is costing that much because the electrician said the can lights are wider inside the ceiling so he cannot just pull them out... they can come out only after he makes a hole in the ceiling , which obviously will have to then be repaired patched up , matching paint etc .. we have only had one and we can find another one to give us maybe more options. i Looked up Kendall charcoal .. wont it make the room v dark ? The sample pictures sherwin William provided were either trims or accent wall.... maybe I can get a program where I can see how it looks in my room. Thank you for all the display ideas! I like dining room mirrors, they can reflect your chandelier (do you have one) and centerpiece and lovely place settings and attractive food and beautiful guests. I don't mind if there is nothing under the mirror. You just want the mirror to be in proportion to the rest of the things in the room. You might have landed a marvelous and huge mirror at an estate sale, but if your dining room set is rather petite and everything is off kilter, well that is not so great. Before you start making holes in the wall, do you have some friends (of the big strong variety) that can hold up the mirror while you take some photos and then you can decide if you want to put it there? omg, what a dunce am I?? Welcome to the modern era loobab!! Why not try one of those photo editing programs and photoshop in a mirror of that size? I think that with certain stores or even Houzz you can upload a photo of your room and find a photo of a mirror they want to sell you that is the same size of the one you are considering and see what you think. And show us too. That works a heck of a lot better than my old graph paper solution or dragooning some strong male friends and baking some brownies :)

I am in the camp of keeping the mirrored wall because in small spaces they really do increase the light in the room. Place furnishings directly in front of the mirrored wall. You can even attach art and wall decor provided the weight is not too great and the items are secured with some type of adhesive hooks, tape etc. You can have a wood design attached to the face of the mirror wall to break up the reflection and add interest. Canvas art is fairly light and can easily be hung on the face of the mirror
