Yeah it sure looks like a bad infestation of black winged aphids (with a few little flies mixed in). Most of the time the plants can stand some aphids but if they get too bad it will start to yellow and some of the leaves curl and twist. But in the long run they don't usually cause really serious damage. You just have to keep ahead of them because they multiply like rabbits. ;) In your climate they are attracted to the moisture. But the big attractant is any excess nitrogen so go easy on the feeding. As for treatment, I'm not familiar with the product you mentioned but if it doesn't work first hose as many as possible off with water and then try the soapy water mix I posted above. If you prefer to buy something for them then check out Safer's Garden Spray. It's organic and quite effective on aphids. Hope this helps. Dave

I have to completely agree. This is my first time growing it and its out-yielded any other variety I've grown (alot!). It's early too...and tasty. Only problem is my garden is prone to foliage disease, and this one does not appear to be very resistant. In fact it's one of the worst in that category (in my garden at least). As a comparison, Neves AR, Omar's Lebanese, Chapman, and my cherries are all very resistant to foliage issues...others such as Tidwell German, Zogola, and KBX are manageable with some spraying...I;m afraid there's no saving my JF's however...just trying to hold off on pulling them until most fruit are ripe (already had a few)...

For the most part catfacing is beyond our control although some varieties are more prone than others. It is primarily related to too cool air temps at the time of pollination. Air temps in the vicinity of the bloom that are near 50 degrees inhibits complete pollination and part of the fruit develops but part doesn't. Not much you can do but wait for later fruit. Dave
