My dear lawn friends....Can you help me with my tree?
Comments (9)I can empathize with your wish to save the tree, but I would question whether it in fact should be saved, or even can be saved. It is too close to the road, and even if you could make it thrive, when it's bigger it will likely start to be hit by passing trucks, and the city might send out their mandatory tree hit squad to trim it back, which likely will be a recurring problem. I can't tell quite what type of tree it is, but I'd bet it's having trouble either due to dirty water from the road (salt and grime) or too much heat hurting the roots, from the surrounding pavement in the Summer. I might be a heretic, but not every tree should be kept. Many were planted in the wrong place, and in the wrong environment, and that's not your fault. How about planting two nice trees in nice places in your yard instead? Just my thoughts... Best of luck....See MoreHelp me read the tag of my new dehydrated friend
Comments (4)Not very dehydrated at all, in fact in pretty good condition. For $5, a bargain. The Wils bit is short for Wilsonara. As for the rest, should be easy, but maybe the gold bit should be in quotes. Those other three letters are a mystery and whoever wrote the tag should be ashamed, but no doubt if asked they would say "Whats the problem" ! I've included the link to the RHS register of names and you can search on full or part names. But note if the gold bit should be in quotes that info will not be in the register, Here is a link that might be useful: RHS Name searches...See MoreFound a new tool that is helping my friend, though I'd share
Comments (7)Nope, not making money off of anything that I'm talking about here. Been on these boards since 2003. Pretty aware of that rule. If you are talking about my blog . . . I thought the rules stated that you can link at the bottom to your blog or website if you have one. However, my blog doesn't ask for money in any way to readers so I didn't think it was a money making effort. I have not submitted any affiliate links on here. And there have been quite a few posts that don't mention my blog at all. So . . . no, I'm not trying to make any money off anyone. Oh! Maybe because on the little videos I say something about getting step-by-step instructions? Nah, that's a free. I'm not selling anything, just wanted to help people. Made some step-by-step instructions for my friend so she could continue to talk to her architect about her plans for her custom house. Thought I'd offer it to you guys too. Sorry, if it seemed shady -- didn't mean for it to come across that way....See MoreReplacing my windows to stop melting new neighbor’s vinyl?
Comments (23)You say trees aren't possible because he built to the edge of the lot line but you have never indicated whether your house is built to the edge of the lot line or not. How close is his siding to your window exactly? Could you plant trees on your property to provide some shading? Could you install some type of retractable screen (like Phantom motorized screens or similar) that could be lowered during the times of the day when the sun is at an angle that reflects from your window onto his siding? What about functional shutters that can be pulled in when needed? Or a Bahama shutter? It seems like there could be a variety of solutions to this issue. I see both your side and his side of it and I wouldn't let this issue be a relationship-killer because it's always nice to be on good terms with neighbors when possible....See Moredjacob Z6a SE WI
