Water feature/small pond. I have made three water features on my property using galvanized washtubs. All three have mosquito fish, solar water fountains, and one or two plants.

Two of the washtubs have clear water with visible algae on the sides of tub and objects within.

The other one has murky water and very little sign of algae but the fish seem to be fine. Should I be doing something to fix the water?

There does seem to be a more fine debris on the bottom compared to the other two. The water is sort of beige to army green, where as the other two have clear water with brighter green algae. attempting to clear debris from bottom just makes the water murkier.

Anyone have any ideas?

Exactly how high is your pH? As long as the pH is stable, fish can get used to almost any pH. Dropping the pH with pool acid can be VERY dangerous to fish. It's knows as "crashing the pH" and is one of the most common causes of fish deaths....although it is usually related to heavy rain. Also...how many gallons is your pond? It does sound like you need something much better than a cartridge filter.

Well, if you are going to just use the 2.5 acre pond to "fill" your garden pond it won't be too big of an issue. However, if it is going to continually be used to power the waterfall etc (IE a big loop) you will infact be filtering the ENTIRE 2.5 acre pond. I doubt that would be effective, or cost efficient. I think you need to have 2 systems both closed off from one another.

If you're looking for smaller lilies, the auroa is a nice changeable lily that is 'medium' sized and is around those shades. Helvola is a great small lily, but has bright yellow small blooms. If you're okay with a larger tropical the Albert Greenburg is a beautiful lily, I've heard 'autumn' colored as the best description. It may need trimming to fit well, at least a nice color option. Clyde Ikins and Peach Glow are also a possibility, but are medium to large sized lilies.

I don't think a water lily would work because it won't have room to spread. A small water lotus in a 5 gallon bucket might though, just don't put it under the falling water. They're interesting and fun to grow, try germinating a sacred lotus by seed. Fun experience. Mine is about to bloom now, very exciting!
