Identifying this plant - thought it was an herb

I planted a bunch of herbs and I am unable to identify this one. I tried using the picture finder and it says it could be nightshade, but that isn't something that I planted. Of the herbs I planted that I am not that familiar with are lemon balm, marjoram and savory but this doesn't look like those. Any idea what it is? I tasted it and that didn't really help.

It's definitely something in the nightshade family. Many of these are common weedy species and can appear just like any other type of weed. Feel free to remove :-)

Okay. Thanks. I read they can be poisonous....I ate half a leaf but I think I'll survive :)

They look a lot like a weed my dad always called nightshade, although I don't know for sure if that is what is generally known as nightshade. I have them all over my garden and flowerbeds. They drive me crazy, however squash bugs love them and as soon as I see them beginning to get defoliated, I know it's time to keep an eye out for eggs and nymphs on my squash.

That's it! THANKS ltcollins1949! If anyone wants a copy of this, let me know; you can have for cost of postage/shipping and advice on how you want shipped. Obviously not a medicinal plant as I'd thought, from the research I've done, but used in certain food preparation plus attractive plant, period. Meantime, I'm going to take some of these to three little family-run Mexican food restaurants here and see if they'd like some. I am remembering that a garden helper a few years ago brought me some tamales, which she called "Guatamalan, not Mexican, tamales" and they were wrapped in a green leaf and steamed. It depends on the nightshade :-) It's a big family and some are commonly grown as vegetables (tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, eggplants) but even those can have some toxic components. It is best never to eat or taste anything growing unless you have a confirmed ID.

One of the various manifestations of Solanum nigrum, Black Nightshade, a common, and toxic, weed of cultivation. I would reiterate, please do NOT eat stuff you cannot identify. Your herbs would all have distinctive strong scents. No need to taste them until you are certain.
