SW Creamy or BM Linen White?

last year

I will be painting my small home office. Western exposure with sloped ceilings. I will be painting the ceilings the same color as the walls.

I want to do an off-white with a little yellow undertone, and want the space to be light and bright and as neutral as possible. Would SW Creamy or BM Linen White work well for this? Any other suggestions?

We need to see the space . BTW to choose colors on a monitor is pretty useless. The best is to get 2 sample cans and large poster boards paint each board with 2 coats of the colors move those boards around in the spaces in all times of the day IMO the only way to choose wall color.Everything in the space affents wall color and there is no way to even make a guess without seeing the space

I used SW Creamy and in some light it does lean yellow. Not like you would look at it and call it yellow but compared to the white in my kitchen, you could see the yellow undertone.

Ooh thank you Barb!! I also have brand new carpet on your staircase that is a pale "almond" color which really translates to a pinky beige undertone I guess but when I hold the linen white swatch up to it,it does not look bad against that so it seemed as if it would be pretty versatile without clashing too much. Maybe that is wishful thinking though. But it looks good when i also hold it against my sage green couch and my creamy yellow cabinet.

My 2 cents. I'd skip Navajo white. I think every track home in San Diego (and probably beyond) was painted Navajo white in the 1980's. Every painted surface including doors and ceilings, including mine. I never liked it, but lived with it for years because it was just too much trouble and expense to repaint everything. Maybe that's why it's a big seller. Been kicking myself since because our paint match wood shutters also need to be refinished to match the white trim and doors we have now. To me the Navajo white has a greenish undertone and looks kind of dirty compared to other colors. Nicotine White is what it's disparaging called here. Can't tell you what to have only what you shouldn't and that would be 1980's track home Navajo White! I'm sure linen and a million other colors are better. When we repainted we went with Botony Beige fron Frazee. On the paint chip it looked slightely darker in tone, but on the walls it's not and it has a more neutral to warm base than the Navajo. SW alabaster/BM white dove - perfect white for cabinets+shiplap walls?

I just painted my bedroom and master bath SW Alabaster with SW High Reflective White trim and doors. I LOVE the look, both colors work beautifully together. Depending on the time of day (morning sun) it looks white without being too stark white, as the day progresses it warms up turning into a vanilla cream in the evenings. My bedroom is west facing with more windows and a small south window. My master bath is west facing. The High Reflective White stays pretty true to color at all times. Unfortunately they were not able to do the cabinets in HRW as the paint I used on the cabinets could not be mixed in that color. HRW is a color that is funny at Sherwin Williams and kinda' tricky and definitely takes more coats to cover. I used Emerald paint in Alabaster on ceilings, walls, and cabinets in different finishes and Super Paint in Semi Gloss in HRW for trim and doors. I was nervous about using Alabaster on the cabinets in the bathroom but it worked perfectly. I will say, for those that are using a white on walls that is not as warm as Alabaster/White Dove, or more cooler grays (think grays that aren't greige) the Alabaster or White Dove warm soft whites are going to go yellow/cream. I would recommend going with Pure White for cabinets and trim. It is still a soft white without the creaminess of Alabaster. High Reflective White is also a good white it's not as soft as Pure White but still not so white that it looks cheap, but again HRW is hard to cover and cannot be mixed in many sheens and paints. I decided not to go with Pure White with my Alabaster walls because my husband wanted more of a contrast with the doors and trim, I wanted to use Alabaster on everything, but made a compromise with my husband, and went with HRW. I am not at all disappointed with the look. I know I spent countless hours agonizing over the choices and hopefully this will help others that are in the same position.

The colors Celery posted are nice, but they don't have yellow undertones, which is what you're looking for. I used Classic Gray in a south facing room because the southern exposure exaggerates yellow undertones. Classic Gray is a very subtle gray, but it's not what you're looking for. I think either of the colors you're considering will give you the effect you're looking for. Other BM colors with a yellow undertone that will warm up a room are Soft Chamois, Seashell and Timid White (in order from less to increasing amounts of yellow). Timid White is closest to white. I used it in my basement which has only north facing windows.

@Celery. Visualization, Rendering images Thank you very much for suggestions!! Wondering what your thoughts are on Creamy? I like yellow so no problem there. Just not sure how it is with western exposure and sloped ceilings being painted that color.

Does anyone know - if using BM Regal Select Pearl for trim, is RS eggshell ok for walls? There is not much of a sheen difference between the two (15-25 Pearl and 12-20 Eggshell), but I'm not sure I want to do matte for walls.

Linen White is an old color and definitely has yellow undertones. Paint up some BIG samples on poster board and move them around at different times in the day.
