One of the things we learned about grays (and I'm sure whites) is that it's all about the light in the room you're painting. In our old house we painted the north facing LR BM Silver Lake (a blue undertone). It was so great we thought we'd do it in a south facing bedroom. Horrible! For the new house we must have 6 sample cans of grays, none of which are the grays we used in the old house. Take these suggestions, but be sure to paint up (large) samples in your kitchen. You'll never know until you try the colors in your lighting. If you want to do this now, it's all good. The cabinets, etc. will change, but the lighting will only change from winter sun to spring sun.

Good news - the entire area is now the sunny creamy yellow color! Hollybar - chair isn't a bad idea, though I'd never actually sit in it... I do have a small rocking chair, visible on the right in the first photo. Without the bookshelves, it could sit farther back in the corner. It NEVER gets sat in, but it's the rocking chair that my mother nursed me in, so it's got sentimental value. Pennydesign - thank you for the tip about the grommet drapery. If you have any color/style suggestions... I tend to like more traditional/transitional decor, with a hint of bohemian. I also don't like dark or light blocking curtains. I tend to prefer sheer or semi-sheer. The orange comforter comes & goes... I have purple, blue, raspberry bedspreads/comforters/quilts... really. I will never run out of bedding, jackets or toilet paper... Re: switching the side of the bed... maybe. I do like your photo. The bed frame is almost the exact size of the bumpout 5'. My only concerns are that it will be more awkward to get up at night to go to the bathroom, I'll have to go around a corner rather than the straight shot down the hall to the bathroom, and it seems a little awkward to have the bed on that entrance wall, though, honestly, I can't quite put my finger on why.

Looking for help picking an appropriate color for my family room. I’m thrown off by the orange in the fireplace which I do not care for. Thank you!

are you painting the trim and shutters white? is that the white you are using? It is difficult to put paint samples up against each other, they will change the actual color. You are better off getting big pieces of poster board and painting samples of your 2 or 3 favorite and moving around at different times of the day What is your flooring? that will also change the colors any other colors in adjacent rooms to consider?
