Need ideas to spruce up the exterior of our '30s house
Comments (14)Thank you for all the great ideas! We're definitely going to go with a wood door and I can see that removing the shutters completely is a good idea, although I wonder if I could get away with just one pair in the larger window. I do want to get away from the brown though and go with a lighter color (maybe light taupe) for the entire house (including the parts painted brown). My husband would like to put some scallops up there like some other houses in the area have. We plan on replacing the wood fence with a brick wall. I'm also trying to talk him into adding a "porch" by replacing the bushes in front of the house (which are old and woody) with brick and putting a trellis in that area designed to look porch-like. I've seen some in the neighborhood that look really nice. Thanks again for the comments and suggestions!...See Morebrighten up my living/dining room combo: need layout and design ideas
Comments (1)I would create a "foyer" by floating a 3-seat sofa or a reversible chaise sofa facing the two windows with a flat screen TV on a low credenza. Hang the clock on the wall opposite its present location. Flank the large front window with a pair of fabric armchairs, a new side table and a table lamp. A new rug should be at least 2 feet wider than the new sofa. For proper installation of a dining chandelier, your table will need to sit under the current fixture. Try doing that to see what you can achieve. Do you want to hire an electrician to remedy the offset? You can probably find a paired semi-flush and a pendant or chandy for both your ceiling lights and maybe the kitchen too. Once you find the seating and rug, we can find a new, brighter paint color to really bring this room out of the shade!...See MoreNeed to spruce up /decorate living room
Comments (9)Anything wood would need to complement your large built in. I think adding glass and metal for C-table and side table would add a different texture. Maybe a leather ottoman that will double as coffee table. You could have a Persian rug or ivory/gray shag style rug to define your living room area but it would need to be large enough to anchor the space (under feet of both sofa and love seat). I don't mid your pillows but I think 4 is too matchy-matchy. Can you take a closer up pic of sofa and pillow fabric? What is behind the curtain divider? Rent or own?...See MoreLiving room- sprucing up the space
Comments (37)njmomma hit it right. What is your vision for the room? Family friendly? Guest space? Instead of jumping into purchases you need to have a plan. Furniture etc needs to be scaled to the room size. The bones of the room dictate the style. Is this the only room for the TV? You will always be walking in front of it where it is located now. Also it is too large for the space. If you love the furniture keep the sofa and get rid of the rest. You need a kid friendly room. If you keep the sofa a white console is not right. Also the height of the console needs to be right for the TV placement. The costway TV console is too short...See Moredecoenthusiaste
