It's bizarre, but the house was built before indoor plumbing or electricity were things, and often they were added to old houses in really odd ways. (Our house had all the electrical run through the millwork when it was added a few years after the house was built, for reasons no one understands!) Apparently the long-time owner for about 50 years was an historic preservationist who tried to restore it, so possibly these were either antique fixtures already in the house or things he sourced over that time. The other bathroom, though still not my style, looks a lot more like a typical modern bathroom and was clearly remodeled more recently by the current owners. (FWIW I think only the exterior was used for Moonstruck, so it may well have looked much like this then.)

It's a Victorian interpretation in an old Victorian brownstone, meeting a modern need for both tub and shower. Nothing more, nothing less : ) We've mo idea what structural or design challenges had to be met. DO we??? We're seeing one angle, as well. Perhaps we should not bash the glass shower unless we DON'T have a glass house. lol

Sometimes in old houses, you do what you can to get what you need.

Since it’s been sold, someone has accepted this bathroom as is. Anyone’s guess is as good as the next one but I would surmise that one owner liked the idea of a glass enclosed, metal framed shower in the middle of the bathroom and indulged their own quirky fantasies.

Maybe the new owner has already contracted to rip this whole bathroom. Or they love it. By any standard, it’s strange.

Let us see the sinks and vanity area. Do you take visitors to see this bathroom? You need live-in help to keep all that glass clean. And the raised shower is definitely a risk without security bars to hold on to when going in or out. Is the steam removing the wallpaper yet? Bizarre.

Houdini, or not - seems showerer would be 'on stage'. I might've built a wall along shower's left side, and to provide some covering of toilet...

I have been in a number of houses that were built either before plumbing was common or when plumbing was in its infancy (including one in my neighborhood that was so old it had a zinc fold up bathtub, a toilet built into a wooden seat and all exposed plumbing that looked more like garden spigots than what we think of as faucets--it also had a modern 1950s bath) and in the bigger houses an upstairs room or one on the landing was often converted into the bathroom with no other architectural changes to the room. But often there was either a step up into the entire bathroom or the toilet, shower and tub were on a platform to accommodate drains. Even my grandmother's house had a clawfoot tub in front of a window on one wall, a sink on another and the toilet on the third all with exposed pipes everywhere. It had probably originally been a storage room. With the exception of this fancy glassed in version of the shower, this what bathrooms looked like. This isn't particularly "made up".

P Banos: I loved your Houdini post!! My grandmother worked at a theater where Houdine performed, she was quite impressed with his talent.

I wouldn’t be surprised is Ms Schumer left the bathroom as is just for kicks. It’s definitely a one-of-a-kind!
