One citrus tree growing inside the other
Comments (4)Most Citrus trees sold these days are grafted. I would suggest the Oorange tree is shooting from the rootstock. Just keep removing any shoots that look like it and the Mandarin should be fine....See MoreOne citrus tree growing inside the other
Comments (3)As Johnmerr says, it is growth from the rootstock. Notice that it has tri-foliate leaves. This means it is either Poncirus trifoliata, or a hybrid of Poncirus trifoliata with a true citrus. These trifoliate plants provide disease-resistance and some cold-hardiness to the fruiting top variety. Their own fruits are extremely bitter - almost uneatable. The trifoliate plant should be pruned right back if you want the mandarin the grow properly. You should cut it back to the main stem, or to a root if it emerges from below ground level....See MoreI like the Northern forums, but like this one too-
Comments (9)I have my daily rounds of GW. Here, Northern gardening, Far North, Plant propagation, seed starting, wintersowing, Houseplants. I've spent a lot more time in the houseplants forum this yr as that is what I do all winter. the gardening forums arent really that applicable to me in the winter. Winter sowing of course, but then there are so many southern us wintersowers and a lot is not applicable to us northerners. I have noticed even zone 7 people frequenting the northern forum - thats just weird. What could they possibly learn there?? don't you find it a little odd that if you look on the forums main page Northern and Far north are posted under canadian, but there are more americans there sometimes than canadians!! Anyhow, a lot of the forums are rather seasonal for us Canadians. But I still wonder where all the canadians are - there are so few in the forums I frequent that I can almost list them all. Maybe there are just a lot of lurkers who don't post. Or maybe they just don't have as much free time on their hands as I seem to.. Faith, it was certainly you that inspired me to check in here once in a while. My post requesting more forums has been pretty much nayed by Spike so here we are - all of us in this one forum!!...See Moregood vines for growing w/trees (other than clematis)
Comments (3)Mrs. If you're considering the campsis trumpet vines, please reconsider, they will in time take down your arborvitae and spread to the ends of your property! They are also not the hummingbird magnet the companies that sell them make them out to be. They get an occasional visit here from the hummers but not the swarms you'd be led to believe. Other than climbing hydrangea which would need a strong support I'd use something like passiflora incarnata, or incense. Maybe even annual vines like cardinal climer, the hummers love them here in New England....See Moregardengal48 (PNW Z8/9)
