Color up my Brick Chimney....Advice please..
Comments (23)If you want to drill into the chimney I am sure there are sources of info more reliable than a landscaping forum, so be sure to check with someone - masonry suppliers and similar locally should be able to tell you how this is best done, or do a little googling around the internet. Or surely there are books on the subject; maybe some books on growing climbers would address this. I am not sure you need to go in four inches, and I wonder whether you should be drilling on the face of the chimney or on the sides of it - seems to me the sides would provide better holding dynamics. You don't want to demand too much of the corner brick, but perhaps a brick right in the side, one that is mortared in all around. The wires do not have to run in the shape you want the rose to grow in. They need to be positioned and secure so that you can attach the rose in that shape. I wold just run sequential lengths across the chimney (attached at the sides, again), each attached separately, so that if one gives out, the others might hold. Not that you want to ask too much of the corner brick, but maybe the second or third one in. The product linked below also looks pretty good for the holding system. Another one from the same supplier but a little flimsier (no drilling required) is here: http://www.leevalley.com/garden/page.aspx?c=1&p=47472&cat=2,33286&ap=1 Here is a link that might be useful: Trellis kit...See MoreOrange/Yellow Brick and Exterior Paint Color Advice Please
Comments (18)i have a bunch of pics here, so use your imagination and try to vision what I think would look good on your place. Love you metal roof idea. I think you should update the home (the 60's were good, but it's time for a facelift) to more of a mid century modern vibe. there are a few ways. First, Paint. yes, paint the brick (With Romabio of course. it's meant for masonry and has almost zero upkeep. look it up. Not the lime wash one, the masonry paint. you can have it tinted to any color so, imagine if the siding was done in a dark charcoal, and the brick below painted a soft white or gray? Or you could reverse the colors another poster on here painted their brick and was looking for another color option for the siding. I'd do your window trim in a dark color. here's a before/after from another poster on here. looks good eh? painted brick, white siding, dark window trim, AND she added the wood slat on the porch area. Wood is necessary! so the other option, composite wood siding (Hardie) on the 2nd story, just like this. paint the brick oh, and more modern garage doors. that's a must I love this one. similar style home to yours. you could paint the brick white, do the composite wood siding, trim out the windows, new garage door, front door. (this is my fave) next comment i'll post more split level pics...See MoreColour advice for garage door, front door, brick?
Comments (4)I would not paint the brick. The brick is what makes your house stand out and I do not like grays or blues with brick.Do the siding the same as the window trim and you could do the garage door the same . Then go to work with landscaping that will up the MCM look much more than paunting the brick....See MoreExterior paint color advice for brick ranch
Comments (6)Thanks for the feedback! And thanks for affirming my instinct to keep shutters and to do white windows bc it is such a traditional house. I’m leaning toward painting brick shade of white with maybe a tan shutter and dark wood door with glass panes. We were toying with dark windows bc we have seen house in our neighborhood doing it but couldn’t tell it that was really the right look for our house....See Morejudianna20
