@Pam Sessoms I can't believe this thread is still going after all these years, but I'm also not surprised that it is. Do not compress the sheet in any way, it is most effective when left uncompressed, you do however have to cut it thin enough to be able to slide it under the fridge. For the rest of your question, the most important part is to cover up as much of the floor gap as possible, it is not necessary to have 100% of it closed off, it may not matter that much. What matters is you are trying to stop sound from the compressor bouncing off the floor outwards into your living space. Don't forget you can also place a thin sheet behind the fridge which may help as well. Read again my original comment on how to do it, make sure to leave enough air gap for hot air to escape or you'll be causing more problems than solving. One more thing to make a note of is that there's two kinds of rock wool insulation, one is for thermal insulation, the other is for sound absorption, make sure you get the sound absorption version. I had such good results with the stuff for sound insulation I used it to insulate the outdoor walls when I renovated, in that case I used the thermal insulation, it's definitely not as good for sound absorption, I tested it out myself. I have only 4" thick walls in the old home so it was the same thickness in my case. I have to mention one last thing, our new F&P we got is still chugging along really well, it has no noisy compressor issue, but we have a new issue with noise coming from the ice maker. It worked really slowly as I said previously, and later on started making loud grinding sounds when it dispensed new ice. We called in a repair costing us $480 CAD (ouch!) to replace the ice maker, after that it worked much faster making ice and was quiet (happy!). Fast forward 1.5 years and guess what? Yes it's making the same grinding noises and is slow making ice again (very sad!). So now what? I bet a second repair will cost $1000 because everything is now a lot more expensive. I figure I'll take the ice maker out myself and try to figure out why it's malfunctioning, not much to lose at this point. Hi Clara (and Pamela and Leahcate)! I just saw your post. My sister was just here and she quilts (I don't). Quilting is so intricate and detailed that I wouldn't even be able to get started, least of all enjoy it! My hat is off to you for realizing it's supposed to be fun. Clara, I haven't really found any forums for support, but decided to do what I knew how to do when I was first diagnosed. (There were a few on the cooking forum who helped me out initially.) I jumped immediately into an old Weight Watcher's diet until I got Diabetes nutrition education, along with my blood testing kit. I felt like I was flying blind until I started testing my Blood Glucose (BG), but after that was easily able to see the correlation between what I was eating and how it affected me. What's important are Little Meals, with some protein always included, with definite snacks in-between keep your BG more stable. I've been eating apples with a little peanut butter, or celery with PB or cheese. You'll have to limit your carbs and spread them out throughout the day...it's amazing how many carbs are in a large apple! I started actively reading labels and seeing how much a portion was (much less than I had been enjoying.) Google Diabetic Gourmet Magazine; there is good information there, and I periodically check to remind myself of how important it is keep tight control of Diabetes. My doctor suggested ''Diabetes for Dummies'' which was very helpful to me. I still pull it out to read when I have a question about something. There's some good info on the Mojo thread about the Glycemic Index (good carbs that are slower to raise BG), which helped me a lot. The thing you have to do is eat! I am looking to install about a dozen or so "XX" dual slider windows in tandem. Basically, I plan on putting one window on top of another. This is similar to what the company "Soundproof Windows" does, except I'm ordering standard windows and having my contractor install two in tandem. Hopefully Oberon can chime in on this one. I did hire an acoustical engineer... however he is not aware of the STC rating for these unique XX dual slider windows. Basically, it's a horizontal slider where both windows (left and right) slide independently. I need these because I have planter boxes directly outside the windows and I want access to the entire section from inside the house. The planter boxes are not accessible from the outside because they are either two or three stories up (homes are three stories tall). Does anyone know if the XX dual slider is appropriate in achieving a high STC rating? My goal is 50 STC with these two windows in tandem: First window (outside) Dual pane 1/4" lam, 5/8" air space, 1/8" plate glass Second window (inside) Single pane 3/16" lam Note that there is about 2 1/2" of airspace between the two sliding windows. So technically, when both windows are closed, I have created a "triple pane" window with a 5/8" airspace and a 2 1/2" airspace. And 3 varying window thicknesses - 1/8", 3/16" and 1/4". Total mass in glass is 9/16" and this doesn't include the two laminate films between two panes which I assume add about 1/8" more. And the reason why I need a ridiculously high 50 STC is because these are bedrooms and the property is located right next to a highway. Any advice is appreciated!

benjesbride - We did not. At the end of the day, there are aspects of that I like, but I'm not so in love with it that I'm willing to make all the changes necessary. Because it was an addition, that part of the house is not over the basement, which is the biggest obstacle. I will think about it some more. I really looked at the revision to your idea, not your original idea (at the back of the space, which is currently where our built-in bar is). It does merit some consideration, because our long-term plan would add plumbing to the other side of that wall for a new master BR. I think we would have to move the door to the deck, which is doable. A lot of my hesitation is that I spent years planning my last kitchen renovation and never did it. I really don't want to plan a big renovation in this house and just never do anything because it's too much.
