Comments (179)Evening All! Well, Katie, I have to tell you that I tried the Hawaiian Current tomatoes today and they were quite tasty! Just a little sweet. However, I had to remove one of the plants - I had noticed last night that something was eating the leaves, and discovered what it was tonight. Yes, it was Manduca Goinguemaculata! Good Grief! A tomato hookworm, 3, to be exact. I pulled them off and drowned them. Boy, they sure stripped that plant fast! Fortunately, it was the plant that wasn't fruiting, so I may get to eat more of the HCs. Strange experience! Ruth, I tend to get excited when I see a grave stone with "1700"s on it. They are rare, at least for me. Would love to see one where the person passed in the 1700s. Have a great night! Shirley!...See MoreJune FOTESS Swap - YOUR CHOICE Seed Swap!
Comments (210)Hi Tom! I see you have a page and a wish list started. Good job. Now if I sound bossy or start to sound like an IRS agent spitting out rules--that's not what I'm trying to do. Can you do a couple things? 1. Set up your messaging. When you click on our usernames (such as canyonwind (9) above, it will take you to her page. In the top right corner is a rectangle marked "Message". You can email her directly, ask her a question, propose a seed trade, give the other person your address to send you seeds--and it's not on the public thread with the weirdos and stalkers. As long as you're setting things up go to your username and add a number behind your name. Once again using canyonwind (9) as an example. That means she lives in USDA hardiness zone 9. I live in zone 4/5. That makes it easier for us to know if the seeds we have will do well in your area. The larger the number the warmer the climate. You can google your USDA hardiness zone. Now that you know your zone...you can work on your wishlist. If you are in zone 4/5 like myself you will know that anything tropical dies in the fall. If I want tropical seeds I know I'll have to grow it indoors or plant it as an annual. What kind of Want List? There's no right or wrong. Why make a Wish List? Because it gives the rest of us information. If you have 3 kinds of marigolds on your list we might offer you another variety. If you have annuals on your list we might offer you some of those. Also include what you DON'T want. Example: No prairie grasses or daylilies, please. Now...FOTESS is a group. It stands for Friends of the Earth Simple Swaps. We swap just about every month. If you are back here at this place find 2018 January Fotess thread. Usually next month's post will be put up the end of the earlier month. We love new people...but as with everything there's a process. You can post on the thread that you're interested in this month's swap or you can click on sandlapper or sjc's username and email them through Houzz. We just don't want someone who says they will swap, but doesn't follow through so we make sure there's a back up plan so nobody's left out. Just like second grade--everybody wins. Keep asking questions! Heidi...See MoreJULY FOTESS SWAP – FUN WITH WORDS
Comments (43)We had a short thunderstorm last evening. Hooray! No need to drag hoses around this morning. Here's POINT GAME Part 2 This one is based on our Bingo word bilingual, relating to two languages. The items numbered are colors in a foreign language. The items with letters are types of flowers. Your task is to match the numbers and letters so each pair is written in the same language. Each of the letters and numbers will be used only once in your answers. (I hope the same word is not used in more than one language, but I will check that in awarding points.) Send your guesses to me through Message or email. Simply post here on the thread that you sent answers so I will be sure to look for them. Example. If these were in English and #8 was “gold” and the only other English word on the list was h. “daylily”, you would give that as one answer: 8h. Send me all 7 guesses for #1-7. You are matching the items under numbers and under letters so they are written in the same language. The person(s) with the most answers right will get 5 points. For 2 extra points you can list which language each pair is. 2 more points if you correctly translate all the words into English. The last 2 parts are not required as part of the game --- just a bonus if you want to try for it --- and all 7 must be correct for you to get bonus points. Please send your answers to me by the end of the day Saturday. I'll announce the winner on Sunday. Once again, I hope this makes sense. I'm “creating” these games as I go along so I always wonder if my instructions make sense. czerwona blanc amarillo oranssi bílý flavo blau a. nelke b. gardénie c. lys d. tulppaani e. helianthus f. crisantemo g. róża Remember, this is the last day to send in your Bingo words if you are interested. Tomorrow is the last day to sign up for the swap. Enjoy! Jeanne...See Morecanyonwind
