Reclaiming my livingroom

A couple of months ago I set up a 2000 pce jigsaw puzzle. It was in my livingroom on a folding table with a large piece of cardboard on top. Handy to pick away at it while watching tv etc. But it takes up a lot of room.

I finished it today. It was given to me, and there are pieces missing, so it's more like a 1990 piece puzzle.

The last bits and pieces I didn't bother, it's incomplete anyway.

This is a Gibson brand. I don't recommend it.......the quality isn't great, and too often the pieces went where I thought they belonged, and I had to undo it. Even pieces that belonged, some were tight and had to be pushed in. But it's done!

Elliott didn't bother with it at all (unlike Bud and Roxie) so he isn't the culprit for the missing pieces.

2000 pieces, my, that is a challenge for sure :) but a fun one none the less!!

no surprise that Elliot was a good boy!

What are the big red scratch-outs? Furniture you aren't keeping? First step is the couch, second is the rug and third is the paint. Paint color should be based on fabrics and textiles (seating and rug) in the room. It can be custom blended, but the furniture is set in stone. When you shop for the rug, it should be 2-4 feet wider than the sofa. Slip it under the front 1/3 of the sofa and have it extend past the ends by 1-2 feet. You can use painter's tape on the floor to figure out the best size for your sofa and room. I'd replace the dining rug too, so the two are coordinated. In addition, push your TV credenza against the wall and put the TV on a swivel base to adjust for viewing.

May I ask just what is a "servery" and what does one do in a "conservatory"? You must not be in the US. It looks to me that the current family room has easier access to the kitchen than does the current dining room. That would be a plus for doing what you want to do. As of the floor plan, it looks entirely doable and it makes sense to reverse the use of the two rooms. It looks to be awkward to carry food service all the way around and down the hall to the current dining area. If you have servants, that might make sense. Since most of don't have any such, it makes sense to have the dining area adjacent to the kitchen. Most people don't even use the more formal dining areas of their homes, except at holidays. The modern sensibility is that most little used areas of that nature just amount to wasted space. So, if you spend more time gathered with friends than gathered around a more formal dining area, make that change.

I'm pretty sure the real reason (as opposed to it just being about my superior tastes, lol) that the mister defers questions on all decor and furnishing matters to me, is so he won't have to disappear for an undetermined length of time like the OP's husband. ;) The rug thing has always been a bit confusing to me when the house has what looks like lovely hardwood flooring - rugs cover that up! Unless it's a basement, in which case I totally get wanting to be able to use the space during the winter and not freezing in the process, therefore a rug if not carpet is needed. I can't tell if the curtains are sheers? Honestly I'm more of a 'put blinds up' for windows kind of gal, if the windows require covering for privacy (don't want to give the neighbors a show or anything, lol). Window coverings also help protect darker upholstery from fading due to sun exposure, and to a lesser extent the same goes for noticeable fade and discoloration of lighter colors. Everyone loves a room with lots of big windows providing natural light, all I can think of is what their utility bills during the summer must be like and that they probably don't have a sapphire blue velvet sofa they're anxious to keep from fading and vacuum religiously despite the utilization of a throw blanket strategy to win the war against dog fur.

You don't really need a coffee table, since you have the side tables. Just tuck a c table under the side of the couch where there is none. That should free up some space. Since you want to put a unit where the chairs are, the chairs will have to be relocated. Even with your two couches and chairs, you only have eight seats. Add more with poofs or ottomans. Relocate the two chairs in front of the fireplace (with their backs to the fireplace). Or as suggested, move the couch that's in front of the window to face the other couch. Then the chairs can go in front of the window. I agree with art going around the tv.

Well done!

I once set up an enormous puzzle outside under a garden canopy. It was squirrels who stole my pieces. I would find them tucked in all over the place.

The rehab center my husband was in after his knee surgery purchased a bunch of large puzzles and there was always at least one piece missing. I thought someone was taking the piece until I opened the box and started it. This time it was an edge piece of a distinctive color. As the people finished their dinners and came to put the puzzle together I asked for them to look for that piece. No one found it and it was the only piece missing later that week when it was finished.

When Tom was in hospice there was always a jigsaw puzzle on the go. Come in to the kitchen for a bite or a cup of tea or coffee and sit and do a few pieces.

Nice job! I don't mind a couple pieces missing from a used puzzle, it adds to the challenge. But 2,000 is challenge enough!

Jasdip, that’s great. But, honestly, now I am craving a Coca~Cola with lots of ice. And there is none here.

Where I grew up, there was a general store about a mile away. They always has cokes in the ice chest in those thick green bottles.
