Comments (3)Plants for a Future Database: Aesculus parviflora - Seed - best sown outdoors or in a cold frame as soon as it is ripe. The seed germinates almost immediately and must be given protection from severe weather. The seed has a very limited viability and must not be allowed to dry out. Stored seed should be soaked for 24 hours prior to sowing and even after this may still not be viable. It is best to sow the seed with its 'scar' downwards. If sowing the seed in a cold frame, pot up the seedlings in early spring and plant them out into their permanent positions in summer....See MoreImpressive Bottlebrush Buckeye

Comments (4)water when they need water.. insert finger or use a hand trowel.. to FIND OUT how moisture is.. IN the soil ... here in adrian ... a few miles east of you ... we had 8 weeks of severe drought ... plus heat .. frankly if you had the same.. your plants look fine.. lol ... the future is no the new buds that are developing .... that is the key ... you were a bit late on planting ... basically right when i suggest the drought started ... see link about planting time.. watering.. etc ... there is nothing to do.. no fert.. they are stressed.. not hungry .. dont spray them with anything and further stress the leaves ... just keep them properly watered .. and understand.. that as nights start cooling in sept .. they wont need so much water.. and that is when you start relying on your finger.. to determine soil moisture ... ken https://sites.google.com/site/tnarboretum/Home/planting-a-tree-or-shrub...See MoreBottlebrush Buckeye Drought Tolerance?
Comments (5)I planted 3 bareroot whips under a pin oak in late 2016. I mulched the planting area with composted stump grindings from a tree removal at the time of planting, and followed up with shredded leaves and wood chips in 2017 and 2018. They've been doing fine without any supplemental watering. They are near the bottom of a small slope in soil that drains very slowly. Standing water even forms at the bottom of the slope after prolonged rain, but hasnt hurt. 2017 was droughty but they were fine. Seems to suggest that with a soil high in organic material, mulch, and shade, they can handle dry periods. A neighboring nursery has some larger specimens in near full sun with a southeast exposure that look good too, but I dont know if they are watering them regularly....See Morebengz6westmd
