White matte 1" hexagon tile which gray grout?
Comments (22)Caligirl, I don't have tile in the shower but if I did I would have probably done subway tile with the same delorean gray grout. I have always loved subway tile even before it became really popular again. It was used during the same time as the hexagon tile and was often used together so you can't go wrong with it. If we had the time in our tiny master bath I would have either shiplapped the walls to just under the switch plates and added a ledge or done the white subway tile to the floor with the gray grout. I'm almost done with the master bath and I have to say it is coming out so beautifully can't wait to show it. Good luck on whatever you go with....See MoreHexagon on Backsplash or floor
Comments (9)your 'hex' is exactly the same as my cube backsplashes I posted. I mean, yes, they have 6 sides, but because of the pattern they look like cubes. (they're actually diamonds or rhomboids fit together to make this pattern) The ones you want for the floor have no design and are a true hexagonal tile. just like this one I posted It' looks straight out of the 60's w/a more modern flair. I wouldn't use the larger cubes for your splash. do something in this size That flagstone you have is original. (if you had it professionally stripped, cleaned and redone, it might look pretty good.) I will tell you, getting that removed is going to be a bear. and if you stripped the white paint from your ceiling, you'd fine some fine wood hiding underneath. It's a cute kitchen. look up mcm style or 1960 redone galley kitchens and get ideas. I'd redo the ceiling and bring it back if possible. I'd also do cabinets like shown above. do the hex floor and the white cube splash. bring in color w/accessories. period appropriate but modern. this is not mcm. at all. It's modern style in all gray. mid century was about color and natural wood. the only thing slightly retro about this kitchen is the cube backsplash. if you like, there are plenty of places to order it. Too much gray for my taste. (but if you keep your flagstone floor, that kitchen will tie in great)...See Moreblack hexagon floor tiles and marble look wall tiles
Comments (11)Yes. Draw out a cube (or separate walls) of that size. Then try placing 12 x24 squares on that wall. You are going to have one whole tile in the center of each short end and 6” wide pieces on either side, or a 1 ft piece on one end. Do you like that look? You will have 2 and a half tiles on the long side. If you switch the orientation of the tile and put the narrow side down, you will either need to have the walls widened by the space of two grout lines, or have one side of one tile cut just a tiny (likely jagged) bit. Make sure your tiler can cut those edges well, because, the tiles being so big, the jagged edges become very obvious. When you have a busier wall of smaller tiles, they do not stick out so much. Only if you make the shower exactly the size of the tiles, plus the grout, and lay them in a vertical stack, will you get rid of cut edges. Play with layouts and see what you like. You can also consider Corian or Swanstone and have a life-long beautiful shower wall with no grout. Anywhere. If you vacuum or sweep regularly, a black floor can be nice. That is, unless you ever use powder. If you do not clean your floors regularly now, do not think about a solid dark color for the floor. Floors are not wet all the time, so their grout should not discolor. You can have more grout lines on a room floor than in the shower, without mold or mildew....See MoreComplimentary wall tile for hexagon floor in bathroom
Comments (31)C F, You have a statement tub and faucet fixture. Note: will there be no shower? Back on topic: Regardless of whether the rest of the house has a plain aesthetic, its OK to go big in a single room, as long as you aren't trying to recreate Versailles in the middle of a Cape Cod or a Venetian palace in an economic ranch. Depending on your region and the home type, wainscoting is a great surface treatment. It may look out of place in some regional home types like AZ, CA or Las Vegas. It will quickly humble a decorative feature without detracting or overshadowing it like I think your hexagonal floor tile would on the wall. Otherwise, there have been so many recent takes on subway tile which also could dress down the tub appropriately. The correct grout would be part of that solution. I think what you are hoping for is a room that doesn't look overly ornate in a somewhat plain or at least unadorned home that has a bold and effective statement piece. From what I have seen, that is relatively where Farmhouse Modern is pointing, so you could finish the room with lighting that is less bold than the hex tile but also has modern lines, a toilet that has contemporary lines, and a cabinet set with Shaker doors or doors that are a bit dressier, but not more than the tub/faucet. Let the tub be the star....See Moreaimeesloboden
