Browallia?
Comments (21)I really struggled with the easterly facing windowboxes for the first few years. I tried New Guinea Impatiens, but they didn't really prosper. I tried regular Impatiens, but they looked a tad "sun-burned". Never bothered with petunias because it would have been to tough to deadhead them for really nice bloom, I had minimal success with Nicotiana, too. Out of desperation, I tried Geraniums and, voila! they did really well. They flower wonderfully through late August, after that the flowers tend to diminish, but they are still a "presence". The actual orientation of the house is slightly southeast; so they get good strong sun until about 1PM. And the exposure has me wanting to try tucking in some things that might appreciate the later summer shade... hence, Browallia, Torenia, maybe a Fuschia? I've found good ol' geraniums to be very forgiving plants, I usually winter over two 36" boxes of them. Nothing like geraniums in January/February. :) Obviously, I think they'd prefer more sun than they get, but I fuss over them, deadheading and feeding with every watering. And, I make sure the soil is allowed to dry out pretty well in between waterings. (we had "Red Coat" last year; screaming, hot red. Used Red and white Impatiens and Browallia in the shadier boxes. "Samaritan" is a very pretty, hot coral... these are Bartlett zonal geraniums from a grower in Sudbury, MA)...See MoreGE Cafe installed today: everything seems to work!
Comments (4)to egganddart49--Congratualations on getting a GE Cafe that looks and functions well. Just wanted to help you understand your fan noise. The quiet convection fan is separate from the noisier fan noise you heard when your oven reached 400 degrees or greater. That noise comes from a second cooling fan which only comes on when the oven reaches a certain temperature and stays on for awhile after the oven is turned off. You will probably find that when you use your convection or regular bake function at temperatures lower than 400 degrees, you will not hear the cooling fan come on. I found this out, because one of the defects in my 1st Cafe was that the cooling fan came on at 350 and the sound was driving me a little crazy. After my circuit board was changed out in an attempt to correct my convection bake issues, the temperature had to reach 400 before the cooling fan came on, which was much nicer since it would be unlikely that any of my baking would be above 375. Best wishes for continued happiness with your new range....See MoreI can't seem to find any nice pictures!
Comments (12)Could you post some photos? Just start a free album at photobucket -- and then click on each photo -- and when the HTML code appears under it -- click and it will be automatically copied -- and just paste it into the body of a message here at GWHD. ((thank goodness for that auto-copy feature! :) And let us know some direction for your choices of artworks -- formal? country? modern? Also -- with that much wall space -- you might want to consider hanging a grid of artworks -- maybe a set of 12 black-and-white photos of local architectural elements or fun shots. ((this is JUST an example!!)) Also -- sets of artworks (duos or trios) might work too. Or how about hanging wall shelves for pretty pieces of pottery? Check places like Pottery Barn or Ballard Designs websites for for IDEAS on artworks -- and do the same at art.com -- simply choose one of their categories that appeals to you -- and start browsing through the selections. IF you find ones that appeal to you -- print off the page -- just to keep track of trends that you like ..... and then can check around stores like Target, T.J. Maxx etc. Also -- check with local colleges and universities to see if they are having art sales or exhibitions ... always fun to go at look! Just some thoughts -- hope you don't mind! :) Jan...See MoreNew here-this seems like a nice forum
Comments (5)mariaocean - Can't tell if you were up late or up early - but good Saturday morning!! It was cool this morning (57*) and I really wanted to sleep in, but little Murphy wanted out, then in because he was cold, then out again. Guess it's time to dig out his little winter sweaters for these cool early mornings. The other 2 dogs have heavy undercoats and long hair so they are relishing the cool. Am off in a bit to do some shopping. Normally, I do one big shopping trip per month, but in the last couple of weeks have had to go into town several times. It's 25 miles to the nearest town of any size. I'm really a country gal at heart, so being out here in the boonies suits me just fine. Have a great weekend. :)...See Morerouge21_gw (CDN Z5b/6a)
