I want a rustic look in my new home.
Comments (11)Hi. It would be great and helpful if you could post some pics of the exterior of the home and some pictures of the interior elements that reflect the Spanish/Mexican decor that you are referring to. This would give us existing styling cues and a color palette range. That being said, we like wood laminate as a material in general, and the idea of keeping the rustic concept, however introducing wood may be inconsistent with Mexican/South American decor which almost exclusively features ceramic tile or stone tile in the floor. Wood, when used, is generally reserved for furniture and structural accents such as beams, rafters, and lintels. Once you post some pics we will be able to sharpen our ideas. Our initial thoughts are to look for rustic tile. We define rustic as having texture and a color range between beige to brown. This could be ceramic tile or stone tile. Stone tile generally requires a thicker mud set, so it may affect the underside of your doors and other built in elements. Ceramic tile typically can be thin set (depending of the size format) and depending of the construction of your home may be the better option. Size: we recommend a standard to medium size tile, 12"x12" or 16"x16" However you choose to proceed please post the pics of the finished product. Comments (1)For the front (which I think is pic#2?): I think adding a portico and pillars over the door for visual interest would be a good start. Adding brick veneer to the basement level, and painting the upper siding a warm grey or green with some standout trim would be great. Nix the red stairs and paint the front door something bright instead. Don't forget landscaping- this can go a LONG way. Adding some shrubs around foundation and a stone path leading from driveway, plus some colorful flowering shrubbery. For the back: Deck along length of house with space for patio furniture/BBQ would be great. You'll want to spend time out there with the lovely ocean view....See MoreBrick exterior needs a new look
Comments (11)Fix the brick and set aside some money for professional landscaping. The brick the best feature of the house. Here's a color scheme that would work with your brick and roof since it's so visible--gray/green/dark taupe siding. And absolutely paint the garage doors the same color since they take up almost as much visual space as the house. You need to connect the two structures. Paint the door a deep red from the brick red or a teal or yellow. Get a fence to hide the garbage cans or put them in the garage. The landscaping needs a major overhaul--reseeding, thick, deep foundation plantings. The current landscaping gives off the vibe that the house has been neglected. Give future buyers a vision of a cozy brick Cape Cod--timeless....See MoreHelp! Getting new roof/gutters, want advice on exterior colors/columns
Comments (5)Yes the pillars are structural I am not sure if they are all needed but that will be determined by a pro. As for colors A nice shade of gray/ green with that roof and brick will be nice I would remove the shutters since most of them are too small anyway.Your gutters need to be the same color as the roof they are not a design element.Maybe just wood cladding for the pillars painted the same as the trim in the green some nice big planters by the door with seasonal plantings and then decide on a door color...See MoreSusan
