Bought this lamp at an auction....anyone know anything about it?!

Hi everyone!

I bought this lamp at an auction today, and can't seem to find anything online about it...been searching for hours! its quite interesting. Very well made, resin panels...and yet nothing like this seems to be coming up online.

Can anyone enlighten me?

It's got the Art Deco leaded glass look. Repro lamp bases easily are sourced. Was yours painted over?

Not sure about the dimpled glass.

The wiring...how would describe it? It seems a bit rough around the edges and maybe a rewire?

Going to follow along to see what houzzers come up with...Was it expensive? Auctioneers aren't stupid. I don't think you bought a Tiffany.

Looks great with the upholstery and it is absolutely adorable!

@elcieg Yes, we were also thinking it's a rewire. Paid £20 for it, quite a few people said afterwards they had never seen anything quite like it before! Hoping to find out as much as I can about this interesting piece :)

Most...the great majority of the time....with antique furniture, unless it's something like Stickley the manufacturer of the piece has no bearing on it's value.

Oh my gosh! I remember that style. I don't know if its "in" again yet. Everything seems to come back eventually. Check ebay for "60's lamp" "70's lamp" to see if you find similar and what they are selling for. If they are not of any great value as they are, I would paint them turquoise, put an ivory wash over just leaving some turquoise peeking through, and painting the candle part so it doesn't look dirty. And a nice fresh ivory shade. Or whatever! Let us know what you do. Kathy

Did you try Google? There are all sorts of styles of Mangiani lamps shown....and even a site showing the different lines of Mangiani lamps. From what I can find they began production in the 1950's.

Are you asking "what is the style" of the lamp? It's origin is a task lamp, but there are many reproductions. From the photo, I can't tell if there's a counterpoise weight to position and balance the light. It's made to look like it has a counterpoise.

However it turns out you have purchased one fantastic, fun piece.

Don't you love auctions? I can sit for hours watching the goings-on. Love it when there is a bidding war. Better than watching anything on Neflix!

@elcieg Our base is not painted over, here's a close up of it and some writing we found close to the bottom. Tiffa-mini I believe it says?

And the inside of the lamp shade it's self is rather peculiar, the light doesn't actually come through the shade itself, there's a material on the inside that's blocking it.

Over all I bought it for it uniqueness and quirkiness! It's definitely a fun piece, no matter what it is! Auctions are truly fantastic, it makes my day to come across things like this!

Tiffa Mini, Meyda Tiffany, probably made between the 1970s and 1990s sometime. It may be painted out on the back because the decorative painted glass may not look so good lit up. Some of the paint looks pretty opaque.

@palimpsest The lamp backing is a material like gauze and was definitely added when the lamp was made, you can even see a strand of solder jumping across a corner of the fabric from one arm of beading to the next. We have tried to find a shade with this same material but are unable to do so :( Thanks for the info though, it definitely helps! I was thinking it may be there for the same reason, it just appears to be a strange choice...

I think it's a meyda base with a totally random hobby/ handicrafter shade.
