Can someone help me visualize stain colors?

Hi everyone!

We are in the process of choosing new colors for when we re-stain our cedar home.

I’m asking for some mock up or photoshop help if anyone can.

Here’s the current house, with several shades of stain thanks to the previous owner.

(sorry for the sun in the picures!)

Here are some ideas I like for colors. Just not sure which to keep light and which part for dark?

Black and white...the white will provide a nice outline for the different angles of the roof.

Definitely a white garage door.

The powder that lost refers to is a dry release. I'm guessing you didn't get that. You can acid stain concrete. We had a friend who used to do this as his business. He had some left over stain, so we just acid stained our outdoor kitchen counter tops. It was a small area, so we used a sponge to apply the stain, and let it sit overnight. The next day we used a baking soda and water mixture and spread it over the counter tops, let it sit, and then washed it off. The baking soda mixture brings the ph back up to a normal level. The acid stains the concrete by a chemical reaction. The stains come in several different colors. Your concrete person should do a sample piece from your pour for you to look at for you to get a good idea of how it will look, but acid staining will give you more of a variation in color than if you had used stained concrete with a dry release over the top. You'll have lots of different shades of the color you choose, and it will be very random. You can only control it somewhat. I really like the look of our counter tops. I guess it just depends on the look you are going for. On the containers of stain, it said to let new concrete cure for 28 days, but we only waited 2 weeks. I'm not sure how much that matters. You have to have your concrete really clean before doing the stain. The concrete guy should take care of that. Hope this helps.

agree with everyone above. its likely whiteoak with either a natural finish or a very light stain. without a closer picture of the wood its hard to be certain.

I agree, it is Golden oak. It will take several coats to get the color of your existing stain, because, it does change colors as it ages. It will also appear a bit darker when you add poly for the final finish.

Love your inspiration pics and color choices! If you don't get any help here you might have a savy younger person who can help you. My daughter does mockups for me. Otherwise you could buy samples of paint colors you like, make black and white prints of your house and try different combos with your paint brush. Hope you get some help!

I’ve seen so many mock ups etc. here that I was hoping for one😉

Also, we are trying to figure out how to decide which areas get the second color?

Is there a way to take a better pic of your home it is hard tosee details. I would also like a bit more info as to your style. Just for me what is the space above the garage? I think that bare wall needs a window. BTW are you planning on getting new windows ? Yout inspo pics are of a very differnet style of house both with black windows .

The room above the garage is a storage room off my daughter’s bedroom.

Any area you want to lighten will need new wood. You can’t go from a dark stain to a light one on the same piece of wood without a whole lotta work. I like the dark body of your house but agree that a lighter trim (in paint) would add some interest.

Have you looked at deep charcoal grays? They can be really classy looking if you’re tired of brown.
