Comments (1)I know that Crinums can be grown as house plants - like Amaryllis/Hippeastrum. If you can plant them up in 9L/2gall. buckets and give them care they will probably come through the shift, though it might take them a year or so to settle in again. If you're talking about the Irises with rhizomes (Bearded), suggest you check on that forum to see what other Iris fans have done in similar circumstances. Taking young growth with an active root system and trimming back to a fan would certainly reduce the impact. I think I would choose a fairly shallow container if your Irises need a good baking to do well the following year. The Pacific Coast and Louisiana irises would need different care again. If you're moving something like I gracilipes, though, an azalea pot might be best, with a good autumn treat of leaf mould over the root system. Those particular Irises do NOT appreciate lots of sun! Do ask the folk over at the Iris forum and put your mind at peace on this aspect....See MoreHow do I remove an old pool light that does not have any screws i

Comments (10)i would go the round up route ... buy undiluted concentrate ... read the directions for bulb killing ... act appropriately ... [you can probably find it online if you want a preview ....] i would bet.. its a higher dilution than what might be in the ready mix stuff ... tulips stored energy last fall ... to come up and bloom this spring .... after that.. the leaves stay green for a while ... storing energy ... and then many throw up a leaf or two in fall ... while growing new roots to store energy.. to repeat the process ... [thats why they are usually planted in fall] so spraying in spring .. and interrupting the storage of new power in late spring ... would be the plan ... but.. i wouldnt be surprised if killing bulbs.. takes a bit more persistence.. than just one shot and your done ... the trick with pump tanks.. is low pressure and tip adjustment... so that you can see actual drops ... and they fall right where you want them .. do not go all french perfume with high pressure.. because that is when you get drift onto plants you want to keep ... practice with water on the driveway until you figure it out .... if you prefer not to use an herbicide ... just start digging ... until you get so po'd .. that you change your mind.. lol ... ken https://duckduckgo.com/?q=killing+bulbs+with+roundup&t=ffcm&ia=web...See MoreHow practical is it to remove bulbs after flowering (to reuse later)?
Comments (15)Tulips do brilliantly well on my allotmen (both species and a surprisingl diverse assortment of garden hybridst...but only because I can replicate their natural conditions to near perfection. Totally free draining, sandy soil and a completely open summer baking in my semi-arid climate. The main reason for loss is viral...while doubles, fancies and a few in the Triumph group are also problematic. This would not work 350 miles on the opposite side of the country at all...but I would go for sinking pots of bulbs in the ground and moving them rather than digging them up (I do this with lilies...don't even bother to sink them, just stuff them behind another shorter plant....See MoreBobH
