Visually, it is all over the place. You have the pantries on either side and over top cabinets of 'fridge. It doesn't look right all white and it won't look good all black. Just do the island and the vent black...consider them accents.

I would not recommend going with the black IF you have direct sunshine hitting the cabinets...everything shows. I have very dark lower cabinets (north facing), they are in great shape after 2 years and 4 kids. I love how grounding dark lowers are.

bring up an inspiration pic or two for yourself. all you have to do is use"two toned kitchen" .... black and white is not the only option. I'd stick with a stainless hood. I'd place a 21 inch wall

Our black lowers are 15 years old and still look great. We found that staining rather than painting was the key. The pull out garbage is the only one that has any wear (around the pull) and it actually looks fine because it looks worn not chipped.

Some really dislike the two tone look and will be quite insulting as they try to talk you out of it. Obviously, I think it looks great. like lucky says above, the dark lowers ground it, but the light uppers keep it light and open. We had a house fire about 7 years ago and could have changed out the lowers, but decided to keep them. We did change the uppers from a dark cream to a more current bright white.

I think i would do the island entirely white and the range hood stainless steel.
