Flooring Design Dilemma Basements

How much did you pay for basement flooring?

We want to rip out our nasty basement carpet and replace it with something less gross. We received 3 quotes, and all of them are recommending different things-about 5K for tile, 10K for LVP flooring, underlayment, and leveling, and 5K for elite planking (it seems to be interlocking floating floor). Before I make any decisions I want to see if these are reasonable quotes because they seem high to me for a basement (especially the 10K one!). Any input would be really helpful!

edited to add: the size is about 500 sq foot, and we are in NJ close to the city

Without information on how large an area you are having done, and the general area in which you live, it will be difficult for anyone to give you any information.

The reason that we need to know where you live is that costs vary dramatically between different parts of the US. A reasonable price in San Francisco might be outrageous in rural Indiana (for example!)

I paid $100 six years ago to have the DCS installed. It was done by a plumber sent by the appliance store where I bought it. They have to hook it up and check the flames - that's about it. $250 seems a bit high - does that include delivery or is delivery a separate charge.

About $165 for 8' tall, two panel, knotty alder, slab only, no frame. I believe that they had 6'-8", pre-hung 6 panel, solid fir doors for $100. Not sure how reputable the dealer is - they pretty much come out and say that their doors are manufactured in Louisiana, but I have since heard from two separate sources that the doors are from China. www.rennaissancedoors.com, if you are interested.

SQ - Because of you I took a look at Speed Queen. 2 things I'm not liking - the dryer says the drum is painted steel - not stainless. Is this true? I can't really find inside pictures. Second, I read someone's post/review that said she couldn't fit her queen sized quilt into the washer. I have a king size bed and fully expect to wash all my bedding at home (mattress pad, quilts, down blankets, etc. Is this true also?

How much did you pay carpenter for custom dishwasher panel?

Of course, my kitchen is anything but standard. We have recessed panel, inset, birch cabinets from the 1920s to 1930s. When we did our remodel twenty years ago, we had matching cabinets and built-ins custom made. I stained and finished the entire kitchen myself, so just finishing one dishwasher door would be no big deal at all to me. But, I also suspect that the uniqueness of our cabinetry eliminates any chance I'd have at all of finding a match from any standard line of cabinetry. Anyone know of a standard line of cabinetry that is unfinished and has flat panel, rail and stile doors with an ogee (at least I think that is what this is) trim on the recessed panel edge? The underlayment and leveling is crucial in a basement if you're using anything other than carpet. If you lay ceramic or porcelain tile on a floor that isn't level you're going to have issues with uneveness and over time, cracking. LVP is more forgiving of variations in the floor, but still needs to have the low spots brought up to a tolerance (the manufacturer should state the tolerance). I can pretty much guarantee you that your basement floor isn't level as builders don't concern themselves with that when they're pouring - unless it's part of the build specification - and the average home is not like that.

Unless you're in an area where there is only one option, get another estimate on the LVP to make sure the first one is reasonable. But to @kempek01's point, the cost will vary depending on where you are and how many square feet you're covering.
