I’d be tempted to use a wine red on all the lower cabinetry and just extend the Egret White for the upper cabinets. I might leave the wall oven encased in wood as is.

What is the flooring going to be? From the photos the cabinets look to be in good shape. is there a reason you feel a need to change the cabinets and not the countertops?

Thank you for the responses. I am going to keep the cabinets-I just wanted to change the color of them. I also want to update the hardware on them. I wish I could replace the countertops but it’s not in the budget so I was hoping to find a way to work with what I have. For the flooring-I’m undecided-definitely not tile which is what I currently have. My plan was to update the color of the cabinets then start looking at flooring samples.

I like your kitchen! If you need a change, paint the island the same color as the backsplash to link the two together with the countertops. You'll want to make sure that harmonizes with the flooring. Be careful about doing things piecemeal. Even though the white walls probably brightened up the kitchen quite a bit, a warmer white would have worked with the current wood cabinets so you wouldn't have to think about painting anything but the island to get a change. A modern light over the island would be a great upgrade in brass finish to echo hardware.

Housegal200-I love the idea of changing the light fixture with a finish to match the new cabinet hardware. Good advice about not going piecemeal-I'm living the disadvantages of going that route right now. I never thought about matching the island color to the backsplash-I'm going to look into that!

Here's a kitchen with wood cabinets with a black kitchen island that picks up black in the granite pattern. This would make a nice contrast to current floor. (This photo shows blue island, but I wanted to show high contrast and somewhat similar patterned countertops I like the three pendants. Or you could get two larger modern ones.)

Yes, doing things piecemeal can have you chasing after the next fix that will pull everything together. Your fixed feature--your givens--are the wood cabinets, countertops, backsplash, flooring. If you like your wood cabinets, then lighter countertops would bounce up more light. However, the new countertops would have to go with the backsplash and flooring. It all gets tricky to have everything harmonize.

Don't change the flooring now. Your cabinets and appliances are on it. That will mean new tile will abut...not a good idea should one of the appliances fail, you will have to break the new floor to remove it.

Suggesting an accent color for the kitchen...I probably would have gone with green for your walls, but adding in some of that color with the countertops would be fun. Or how about green for the cabinets?

I decided on Benjamin Moore Bleeker Beige, and the cabinets are being painted later this month. Will keep you posted & will post a picture of the result!

I think, though, that you have tons of options depending on what type of look you're going for! Dark charcoal colours might work, dark burgundy brown/reds, or someone suggested dark hunter green to me, which would also look great. You could do the lower cabinets in that contrasting colour (or just the island), and do the upper cabs in the same colour you've painted your trim...

Or -- I actually really like your wood cabinets as is with the granite - for a change, you could keep the wood lowers (or the wood island), and do the rest of the cabs the same colour as your trim.

ETA -- I don't find your countertops all that dated.... but I think the issue is more that the floor doesn't work with the rest of it. There might also be an issue with the backsplash but it's hard to tell in your pictures.

I love the color of your cabinets and solid wood is on trend Your countertops are what is dating your kitchen, IMHO. White marble-look quartz counters, a sleeker range hood, a new backsplash and some modern lighting would by far be my preference.

New kitchen rug that ties together a few elements, along with modern lighting, might be a place to start and make you like your cabinets more and not have to paint any of them.

Maybe consider removing your chicken and canisters from cabinet tops. Something called "negative space" can give a room more streamlined look. Just a tweak suggestion.

I believe we have the same or similar countertops. We used sherwin williams iron ore, its a dark neutral grey. It toned down the yellow quite a bit. My second choice was sw alabaster, it’s a good neutral white.

Hi - I love your counter tops and have them at our cottage. We have creamy white cabinets and cherry colored- stained hardwood floors. The contrast between the white creamy cabinets and the quartz is really pretty. IMO (very humble opinion). However, I don't remember the color but it's a warm white.

But, this is about your kitchen .... I would start by 1) painting the walls Alabaster or some other white that will tone down the gold, 2) replace the light fixture, 3) paint the island a contrasting color like SW Iron Ore and 4) get that great rug someone below suggested Go from there before doing anything drastic like painting the cabinets or replacing the Venetian granite. The wood color of your cabinets is coming back and they look to be in really good shape!

If you want to change out the cabinet color, the Iron Ore posted below looks great or consider a warm white and the iron ore on the island. I think contrast is what you are missing!
