Flooring Design Dilemma entry

Should my foyer and entryway half bath have the same flooring?

last year

My half bath is located behind my front door when the door is propped open. Since they’re located right next to each other, should the flooring be the same? I have to change the foyer floor in order to use the preexisting flooring for patch work elsewhere. (Disclaimer: half bath door not shown in picture)

Yes - in my opinion, it will look better with the same flooring.

I think this is a matter of pure personal taste. I (personally) like the same flooring throughout the home. This, in my case, is hardwoods through the main living area, the same tile in the two bath areas. I think having the same tile creates a feeling of flow thru a space. The house we purchased and are in midst of remodel had tile, laminate, engineered wood, slate, carpet, and a different tile. It made the space look so choppy. It looks so much bigger and more cohesive with two flooring choices throughout.

Replace the flooring if needed. Remove dated wallpaper, paint or re-wallpaper (love the 2nd bath inspiration pic). Refinish or paint cabinet. Replace counter top, sink, lighting and hard wear. Replace the toilet to a more updated one. Keep walls clear other than mirror and art. I think this is one of the easiest and best updates you can do to your home! Good luck!

Do you have a separate Dining Room (this is where it would help if we saw the layout of the entire floor - both here and on Kitchens - not just the addition, the entire floor). I'm asking b/c if you do, you might consider making the table space a banquette and taking more space for the Powder Room. (Bench along the Powder Room and, possibly, "top" walls) Regarding the laundry - I'll be honest, I would not want my laundry anywhere where guests could see it - and putting it in the Powder Room means guests will definitely see it! It might help to build an enclosure around it - it would at least hide the washer & dryer, but it wouldn't help with any laundry sitting in the room - clean or dirty. Note that expanding the Powder Room may mean going with the narrower window (8'+ vs 10').

The front porch landing is concrete and is at the same level as the front foyer. Is that how/ why the previous flooring got water damaged? Your house, your call. I still like the slate idea. Is there a side lite on the other side of the door? Because the sidelights help a whole bunch in keeping the foyer light. I have a slate entry as well as sidelites. They were half lights & had to be replaced. Opted for full lites almost identical to the one in your picture and it made a huge difference.

I think it's OK to have the half bath tiled and the foyer wood. If, however, you're thinking about two different types of wood, two different types of tile or wood next to LVP, then no.

I was thinking about doing ceramic or porcelain tile

I'd vote for the consistency of all the floors being the same. It creates flow and a more sophisticated look imo.
