Design Dilemma Bathrooms

Bathroom- remove the side splash or keep?

Does anyone know how difficult it would be to remove a side splash? The counter top fabricators installed while I was out and I’m not moving the look of the right wall side splash. OR should I keep it? Is it necessary? Thanks in advance

Since your vanity is on the smaller side I would keep it. It looks fine in the photo and removing it might mess up the wall. Probably more trouble than it’s worth.

I would only do the subway tile on the back, I would not put a back splash on the side walls ... it will make it look too closed in, you want your eye to only go to the back wall for depth. And because your counter tops are so dark, I would not use the small 4" granite back splash anywhere. I would only put the dark granite on the horizontal surfaces and then tile all the way down to them.

Thank You for the comments and suggestions. The wainscoting is also in the kitchen, and a small room adjoining the kitchen dining area with a back door entrance, this room has a built in desk and will make a nice study but I will probably remove the desk if removing the wainscoting, I assume the feeling would to be to also remove the wainscoting in those rooms. The entrance from the garage into the kitchen has full length paneling, the formal dining has paper on the walls I will see if I can add pictures of this area of the house.

I don't think there is a permanent solution. Best bet is to keep a towel or similar item across that edge and keep reminding the kids to be neat. Remove it when there's company. Eventually the kids will be neater (more from age than the nagging, in my experience). A different faucet might help and is easy to do. If you're up for replacing the vanity top, you can have a raised edge around it as well as getting a better sink with a recessed faucet deck.

That toilet doesn't look like it will pass code. Most codes require at least 15 inches (measured from the center of the toilet) from any side wall obstruction and not closer than 30 inches center to center to any other sanitary fixture. (The NKBA actually recommends 32 inches.) There should be at least 24 inches of clear space in front of a toilet or bidet. Remove that piece of wall and put in a shorter vanity. No Tub

Not really necessary, but probably more trouble than it’s worth to remove if it is adhered to the wall.

I vote to leave it, looks normal. Put a single towel bar on that wall so bottom of towel is right at top of backsplash.

Sure crow bar would pop it right out. Then you get to fix the wall, get the glue off the counter top...is it worth it? Nope.

If you decide to remove it make sure the countertop edge along the wall is finished like the other side. Mine is rough so I have left the side piece on.

I don't care for it, but it's not horrible and many folks do have it so it is not some odd thing that no one has ever seen.

Is it the angle of the picture or is our sink off center?

If your wall is not square it could be hiding a gap.

Select a larger piece of art for the wall.

Ditto on the gap issue. I would really be p!ssed if I popped it off and discovered it was hiding a gap. Or an unevenly cut edge.

I'd ignore it. It's not worth removing.

I think it's fine. many vanities like yours have both splashes

What you do need is something over the toilet.

you could do marble shelves,

white shelves

or a more black/industrial type of shelf

pick some decorative items. maybe texture like a basket, or even wood

These are hung too high, (about 8 inches lower for both would look better).

if you did want to remove it, remove both and do a tile wainscot or tile backsplash, something like this

Leave it. It looks fine and it will protect the wall from spills on the counter.
