If you're really on a budget, you could gently drive a scraper between the front edge and the top, then squirt in lacquer thinner until you can raise the entire front edge. Remember that lacquer thinner is extremely flammable and that if you rush and break it, you're screwed. When the laminate is delaminated, belt sand the swollen top to flat. Adhere with contact cement and roll it. Run silicone around the raw cut-out to prevent it from happening again. Be ready to take holly's advice. So, I just talked to the remediation contractor who quoted me $1200. He told me he's licensed and bonded etc and has been doing this work for 30 years. He had been out and looked at my floor a few days ago and says that on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being worst case scenario, mine is about a quarter (1/4). I suppose he could be wrong, but I feel better now. Going to go ahead tomorrow or Monday and pull up all the warped section, then probably have him come by to do a check and maybe test before his flooring guy comes to give me an estimate on installation. I'm taking into consideration too that the plumber who has a good reputation with several people down the street is the one who referred me to him.

I would. It will make the install much easier and also make it possible to keep the floor in a future renovation that changes or moves the island. Probably just a few screws holding it in place, should be easy to move. I've saved my self a lot of headaches several times now by installing kitchen flooring before the cabinets go in over the entire floor and then setting cabinets on top of it. Gives you the freedom to move things around later for the price of a few square feet of flooring while making the flooring installation easy -- a win-win.
