Flooring Design Dilemma

vinyl plank flooring.

Downsizing and moving to a condo. I want to remove carpet and do vinyl plank floors. Kitchen cabinets are maple. Should I try matching floors to cabinets. My furniture is all dark wood. I’m thinking the grey tones might be too trendy.
Also, wide or more narrow planks? Thanks!😀

Please don't use vinyl flooring. It's the worst thing for the planet you could possibly choose. Hardwood, tile, or even linoleum would be better choices and look great, too.

Or go to Lowes and look at the new real wood alternative. Smartcore Naturals. Same click install. Same SPC core. 100% waterproof. Real wood veneer wear layer doesn't look like a picture. No repeat. 1/4" thick. I'd choose a light non-yellow French Oak product.

Flooret now offers a similar hardwood product in 11" widths. Made in Sweden. Sylvan Hardwood- Flooret. 7" widths also. Here's info on an underlayment you may want for sound. Steico Underlayment. Look on the Technical Documents tab at the bottom of the Flooret page .

There's no reason to choose lvp.

My parents downsized for the 4th time and their latest house has LVP. It looks nice in their house and they picked a medium brown tone, so not a trendy color. Their last 2 houses had tile and houses before that had hardwood. I built last year and installed engineered wood floors through most of the house. I kept an open mind and did take a look at LVP when doing my research, but I didn't like the look and my DH hated how they sounded when he walked on large sample areas installed in the flooring showrooms. These days you are seeing the LVP being installed in higher end homes here in FL and buyers seem to accept it just fine, specially closer to the beaches. A couple of years ago I had started seeing the ceramic core floors with a wood veneer in Los Angeles, specially for mid/high end flips.

I am wondering if I should just take my multipurpose tool and cut out the plywood piece towards the door jam. Then put the t molding over that. I think there is a t molding that i can use that would go from vinyl plank flooring to a lower floor.

I just had Karastan SPC installed by an excellent family owned flooring company with a lifetime guarantee on their installation. Their installers are employees, not subcontractors. They honor their warranty. They will rip out and replace an entire floor, hard surface or carpet, if necessary. The plank has a crushed limestone core. They honor it. In one area, I had 125 square feet of Armstrong Alterna removed. This is a glue down tile. They then skimmed the concrete subfloor to cover the residual glue, as they said that walking on the planks could activate the glue. No shortcuts taken. Not with a lifetime warranty. Most of the concrete subfloor is perfectly level. However, one section has a slant like yours. The installer said the the concrete was lower on one side of the poured joints. Noticeably so. He said with these rigid planks, that would not be a problem. I don’t notice any problem walking on the floor. Did you install a quality rigid plank?

Gray is trendy and not classic. Just select a floor with a classic appearance. Select an engineered hardwood, or even consider a well make laminate.

@dan1888 have you installed the Sylvan? I am sold on it from the samples, but trying to decide between Anza and Balboa. The samples are darker than the photos online. I love the Balboa sample but it looks greyish and much paler in the photos online.

There are many to choose LVP. Harwood is always the best choice until it isn’t.

We don't know Freedom’s circumstances,

We installed LVP in our Florida home. What were my choices? Our floors were tested and wood was out of the equation. We are seniors. Do I want hard ceramic tile? Even with rugs you are still having much I've vacationed in places with tile and my joints couldn't take the stress.

Carpet? No you. Been done

That leaves.....LVP. Couldn't be happier on many levels.

Sabrina makes a point for the environment. Okay, I say we all do our share. How large is your home? Do you your car for transportation? Have you on a plain? Do you compost?

HU-892841954.I haven't received samples yet. I'm trying for zero yellow tinge. Lyon and possibly Evern may be options. I have spoken to the people at Flooret in the past. Very involved.in their product. I think you should ask them about color range and tone.

eld6161 Things march on. Now choices that would be fine in your location include 100% waterproof SPC core products with a thin layer of real hardwood. LVP has a picture printed on vinyl. i'm not attracted to that.

In many condos hardwood flooring is not allowed so that would be the first piece of info we . LVP flooring will never match your cabinets real and fake wood are never a good combo. .

I do agree that plastics are a problem, but deforestation is also a huge problem, so please stop with recommending wood over LVT as an environmentally friendly option. Bamboo, cork, reclaimed wood may fit the bill, not not wood.

Do you have people living below you? The removing the rug and replacing with a hard surface may not be allowed because of noise. You might get away with cork with an underlay.
