Comments (4)I think it will probably be slower, many variegated plants seem to be that way. Supposedly able to root from cuttings, of course I have many I could use for grafts- lots, too many! It will be a while though, it only has five leaves right now. I just hope it is stable and does not revert....See MoreCarolina Cherry Laurel Screen
Comments (5)Spazzy cat, do you grow the species, or a named cultivar? I've not noticed any damage -- these are bird planted and the maintenance is just keeping them out of the field and off the road by mowing. However, any prunus is subject to borers. When the cherry laurels first started, they were severely damaged when the then owner of the property behind burned the stand of pines, and let the fire come on our side. The volatile oils in the cherry laurels were like fuel burning. More grew where they were too small to recover. Thanks Nell...See MoreSkip Cherry Laurel leaves brown and brittle
Comments (4)Looks like winter burn -- which is, in reality, a shortage of water or dessication of the leaves which occurs during the sunny, windy, cold spells in winter. You see this especially in plants exposed to a lot of winter sun. A number of Schip laurels grown in full sun were lost after the winter of 14-15 in my region (DC area). Keep your plant well watered this season, use mulch. If it has no tip damage, it should grow quickly this summer. These are best planted in early Spring (rather than Fall) up here so they get a toe-hold before the rigors of winter....See MoreWhat's causing these brown spots on my skip laurels?
Comments (6)Since there are no real holes in the leaves to be seen, it's a bit hard to consider that damage being caused by chewing insects :-) It looks more like rust but that is not a common issue with laurels. It almost looks like it has a raised texture to it.....have you tried rubbing it off? Is it dry and papery? Can you provide a good, focused pic of just the leaf damage?...See MoreJeff
