What’s happening to my blooms?

Can anyone identify why my Othello blooms look so terrible? I purchased this last year and it spent the summer/fall growing roots so I never got to enjoy a bloom until this year. The buds seem to be fine until they begin to open and then they shrivel and distort. The foliage is healthy and it’s growing well overall. Is this insect damage? I was thinking thrips but I’ve inspected the petals and found none (they are rarely in my darker colored roses). Over or under fertilization? I’d love to see this guy in all its glory some time! Thanks in advance for the assistance.
