I am window opening kind of guy, and the best type of window for opening is an *inswing* casement - it's just like opening a door. The drawback is that, like a door, it can cause an obstruction that must be accommodated. OTOH, I don't care for the outswing casements at all. The dinky little knob to crank it out is a pain to operate, but a push-out outswing would not have this problem (but would also be a problem for anyone with short arms.) And there is the hokey way that screens are implemented, unlike the inswing, which is on the outside like for a sash. If egress is an issue, the outswing casements are not as good as an inswing, and a rather wide window would be needed for the 20" egress width. The sash window, while plain is actually good in all respects, except that generally manufacturers make them difficult to open. And of course, the ventilation (and egress) profile is only one-half the size, unlike the casements.

Good advice in the 2 posts above. The Integrity is a solid choice, and any Marvin product is as good as you'll find with a real wood interior. Wood is what it is, so there will always be the question of WHEN, not IF it will ultimately degrade, but with proper maintenance the two Marvin options should have a good lifespan. As WoW alluded to earlier, the Sunrise (or any premium vinyl) will generally offer superior performance (better u-values and air leakage), a lower price, better warranty, and less maintenance, but the appearance factor is more important for some, and wood can't be beat in that area. Regarding the installation company, you would vet them just as you would another window company, look at things like review sites, history, do they have a physical location, references, view their work, BBB, trade affiliations, etc, etc.

I'd just add to the above comment to use primer prior to paint. Yes it's an extra step making the already tedious job more of a hassle but for all the effort it's worth it. We used zinsser's bin for every surface of trim in our house per the recommendation of some contractor I chatted up in a paint store. Also, we didn't sand but I have found a few areas (sharper corners of molding) that paint is slightly easily nicked away back to bare wood... For this I wish we'd taken the time to do a light sanding prior :-/
