Classic Leather is also handmade in NC. Classic uses a mixture of hardwoods not all of their frames are solid and not all of their frames are true 8-way hand-tied, it depends on the style. Bradington Young is more economical because they use a multiply laminated hardwood frame in place of the solid knot free kiln dried hardwood frames used by Leathercraft. Bradington Young is now a division of Hooker Furniture rather than a family owned business like both Classic and Leathercraft are. Both Classic and leathercraft cater to a higher end customer, they are both willing to make custom changes on all their products within reason. Bradington Young is more main stream they cater more to the masses, they do not like to change up patterns and such but are willing to make subtle changes to their frames like adding or deleting nail trim and they do offer seating or cushion options like both Leathercraft and Classic. All three of these manufactures are based in North Carolina and build outstanding products and yes we do sell all three brands at our store that is why I can comment on this topic as an expert because we are a leather specialty company and my experience comes from years of working with these exceptional leather furniture manufactures.

We bought Elran several years ago as well and I've got similar issues as Shelley showed in her pictures. Anywhere there's friction like on the edge of the arms or seams of the seat, the surface layer is wearing away leaving a lighter bottom layer showing through (and not in the patina sort of way that you'd expect from high quality leather). I had specifically emailed them about the leather prior to purchasing and they claim it is analine dyed top grain leather, but it's not behaving like any leather we've owned before. Also within a week after buying our sofa set, the arm in the loveseat broke and needed to be repaired. The repair guy warned us that they had used cheap materials inside and that he had replaced them with far more solid wood. I would be very wary.

Do you think yours was manufactured in the U.S. before they started their China operations? I know Flexsteel has had a good reputation which is why I was initially drawn to them. I was very surprised that they had gone to producing in China like so many other companies are doing. Today I also found articles online about people in the UK being "poisoned" (severe burns, breathing issues) by some fungicide that was being used on sofas from China to prevent mold during shipping. It seems like so many products from there turn out to be toxic, shoddy or both, my instincts are to steer clear even with the good rep Flexsteel has historically had. I wonder if some of their sofas are still even made in the U.S. anymore or if they are all China made now? I'm glad you are having luck with yours and hope it works for you for many years to come.

But if it's warranted for one year and there is an issue beyond that how would the company be responsible? Also, if the store you purchased it from was unable to help, how would the company be able to over-ride that? I would assume it's like a car, if you buy one and two years later something goes wrong outside the warranty, why would Ford fix it? It would be the person who purchased the item from Ford and then sold it to you, right? I don't have any nuvo leather, but i do have a Flexsteel sofa and it's held up pretty well to a cat and small kids. I think if you evaluate the warranty going in at least there wont be any surprises.
