Pictures of Diseased Hostas please
Comments (32)Here is a picture of a HVX infected Wolverine. I didn't have it tested, but Chris from Hallson's told me the bad news. And Phil, your Gold Standard looks very interesting and has an intriguing color to it. I can understand that you would like to keep it since you have lots of room and it can't infect other hostas. I thought I remembered (on another thread) that you have had it for many years. It looks quite small if that it so....See MoreRose Rosette Disease Confirmed in Harris County, Texas (Houston area)
Comments (9)There have been tests about seed transmission...taking seeds from infected multiflora and growing them out and none were found to transmit RRD. But negatives can't be proven. A similar virus with far more catastrophic economic ramifications affected/infected corn and wheat on the Great Plains. Several thousand seeds were grown out to see if that mite transmitted virus was also seed transmitted and the incidence was several plants out of thousands....and that was an open field test so it was possible that those were mite transmitted. Nobody has the growing conditions to test thousands of plants in isolation. Bird or insects are possible assists to the eriophyid mites. If the mites were visible to the naked eye.....but they aren't. And combing a live birds feathers to see what might be hitching a ride, likewise grasshoppers katydids..... "A cure by now".....viruses aren't that easy to cure....See MoreHOSTA ID - Confirm my guesses?
Comments (14)I only have one plantaginea and it only sent up one flower scape last year, so I can say they're pretty fragrant for hosta. When you smell the blooms they are obviously fragrant and large (see Ken's pic). But, my neighbor has an underplanting of about 10-12 plantaginea right across the driveway and I've never noticed their scent wafting over. Though some say the cut flowers fragrance will fill a room. The Royal Standard I have was given to me last year, but they were divided and planted in August. I could still see portions of the scapes where the landscapers had cut them down. So I honestly have no idea of the strength of their scent since I've never had a chance to smell them. We'll see...or smell come late summer....See MoreRose-rosette-disease-confirmed-in-north-Louisiana
