Just noticed one window isn't centered with the others!
Comments (15)We emailed the construction supervisor (haven't talked to him yet) and talked to the sales counselor. She said that they would address it. We will get an update from the supervisor today on the house and will talk to him about this. I am just surprised nobody including us noticed it until now. It took the windows and siding up to actually make it noticeable. NOw that is all I see now! As for any other non apparent mistakes I hope there is none. They have been good at fixing other mistakes. They had framed our study doorway to a 29 wide entry when it should have been around 60. Big difference but it was taken care of. As for the extra insulation we didn't tell them in writing. They had the insulation inspection last week and the structural on Friday. The supervisor said they would be delivering the dry wall on Friday but when we drove by at 3pm Friday it wasn't there. We went on a little vacation and came back Monday night to find that they had worked on it this past weekend. My husband is disappointed because he was going to put the extra insulation in and work on a closet he was putting in himself. Now he will have to wait. I want the house to keep moving as we are on a tight schedule on moving out of our current house. We are renting from the new owners after we close tomorrow until Sept 30. I have my doubts that it will be done in time. I just want all the mistakes fixed. That is more important than moving in in time. Don't hold me to that last comment. I might be pulling my hair out then!...See MoreHelp! I'm stuck - and lurking just isn't working :)
Comments (42)One particular treatment that was done in the 18th and 19th c. when it came to paint, was to paint the entire room in the same color, trim and all. The modern interpretation of this would be to do a higher sheen level on the millwork. This could address the issue of the different sizes of doors and such and minimize the horizontal banding effect of a wainscot. * * * * Mount Pleasant, a Georgian house that has slowly been taken back from colonial revival notions of what it looked like to what it Really looked like --based upon physical analysis-- had very Interesting paint treatment: The entire room, including all the heavy Georgian detail, was painted in one color (a rather drab gold if I remember) The cupboards had a bright paint treatment on the interiors, and there was a brownish black band of paint that ran around the lower 6-9" of the perimeter, intersecting EVERYTHING: door jambs, doors, fireplace, etc...a cut line straight across. (Apparently to hide the splash marks from washing the floors and muddy clothing and such)...See MoreIf it isn't one thing...
Comments (39)Our weather king sits on his throne his meteorologist skills he hopes to hone The words spew forth in repetition as we anxiously await tomorrow's prediction The dreaded S word he starts to spew while we at home make soup or stew Then off we race to the nearest store our bread and milk we hope to score We race back home to batten down hatches and bake our cookies in batches and batches Alas again a false alarm I just might do that weatherman harm...See MoreHelp! My mid-century couch looks great but isn't comfy! What to do?
Comments (10)with sofas, one really needs to sit on them, and be prepared that almost everything new deemed "affordable" (whhich is not cheap at all btw) will be of worse quality than it was say even 20 years ago so I'd say -either be prepared to pay more, but also go to stores and try to sit first and see whether works for you since seating is very personal..depends on one's height etc..you might also be lucky and they'll have sale, or even better- floor models they want to get rid of, etc. Check Room and Board, Design Within Reach(can't get over the name lol..but the quality's nice), different stores carrying good imports from Europe..Cantoni for example..will be very different price yet who knows, one might get lucky. Or even very lucky. or. If you're inclined to invest your time rather than money(which is what I usually prefer to do)-go to vintage stores, even flea markets if you have good ones in the area..some sellers refurbish vintage mcm, and happen to do it quite well. Then you'll be at West Elm price, even lower maybe, but much more superior quality yet another option -your local Craigslist. Saw amazing mcm couches there many times ..pity that I don't have where to put them lol. actually any site that will have option for local pick up is worth checking, but one needs to search by area. these would be Etsy, Chairish, Everything But The House.. I'd take my time in searching for the right sofa. and I might go for a different one-say fabric as opposed to leather. So it'll be purposeful, interrsting mismatch, yet within same sensibility, and with propotions that will have similarity. I spent my childhood with mostly mcm furniture and it's just as comfy as other furniture..when made well. Again sit on it first. Otherwise you play sort of roulette-will it be comfy? will it be not? Whatever's good for hundred reviewers might have absolutely no relation to me when it comes to seating....See MoreRawketgrl
