are you open to repainting the brick or does it have to stay yellow? If that's the natural color, fine (I thought it was already painted). perhaps a good power washing would help brighten it up a bit. I love the leaded windows off to the right. don't ever change those! normally the stucco portion is light and dark contrasting color goes on the wood trim&shutters. if you could do the brick in a dark gray, you could do something like this (except I'd pick a darker trim color.)

I usually have an 'each their own' perspective, but when I saw this, it saddened me. All that beautiful architecture molested by the idea of renewing and lightening something up. I totally understand the need to make houses more efficient, but why try to make a tudor what it's not... sell it and buy a different house! That original brick work had it's own natural colors and was beautiful! So was the diamond lead glass windows in the front that were not spared! I only hope as Debbie Downer mentioned that the appropriate methods were used because masonry is meant to breath. Liberties of paint shouldn't give the assurance of improvement. I feel a loss of culture and character when I see all these beautiful thing that lasted the test of time, covered up. It's like people who paint over the amazing grain patterns of non-wormy, American chestnut trim to modernize the interior.

@apple_pie_order, The trim is stained, not painted. I'm pretty positive the beams are decorative. I might make the decision about painting them white or removing them based the price difference. If we remove them would it make the ceiling feel higher or have less weight? What about the beams in the larger room? That ceiling is a bit higher so I feel like painting them might be better to keep some of the character. @raee_gw zone 5b-6a Ohio, I like the idea of replacing the handrails for the stairs with wood. I've thought about the idea of painting the risers white. If we did that, what would you recommend for the color of the hand rails? I also see what you mean about the built-ins not being congruent with the wood paneling. I'm hesitant to remove them since we do, indeed, use them. I really like your idea of replacing the drawer and door fronts. I'm not sure what style you mean by the doors in the other rooms. Do you mean the ones with the rectangular shapes on them? Also, where can I find door and drawer fronts? I do think I like the texture of the paneling but I have no idea how it would look/feel if it were painted. Do you happen to have a picture of your painted pine? I like the stone on the fireplace so I think we'll keep those. Do you have any suggestions about a mantel? We would love to do french doors in to the three season porch. Would it matter that one of the doors wouldn't be able to open all the way? The door on the right would bump up against the wall if opened. @Elaine Ricci, I'm interested in the idea of painting the paneling a slate blue.

I've been researching exterior before/afters for a few months now for a house of a totally different era than yours (and mine is ugly!). But...I have to say I'm loving the trend that goes single color - these days the trend is white or cream. Your garage forces itself to the front of the facade - I'd love to see that minimized and a single color would go a long way to making it feel like its part of the whole house.
