Living room feedback. How would you improve this room?
Comments (43)I've been under the weather for the last few days, so wasn't able to act on any of the additional suggestions until today. Thank you so much to everyone for the feedback, pointing out both the good and the bad. Today I moved a few things around. I decided to concentrate my efforts of lighting, as I think this will help us to enjoy the room more. The new additions are just stand ins, while I look for the right lamps and plants etc. I will also look for better wall art by the love seat and go to Benjamin Moore to look for a warm neutral that's lighter for the walls. I also liked the suggestions to replace the several small accessories with larger ones. And also to try to incorporate the window seat into the room more somehow. I was thinking of trying more colorful cushions on it, to tie it in and make the eye travel back there more. I will keep the points about the tables in mind for when it's time to look at new furniture. Thank you again so much! I feel so much better about this room already! I will start a new thread if/when I have specific questions about lamps or pillows. Thank you!!...See MoreHate my living room. Please help me fix!
Comments (19)Thank you all for your great ideas. Diana, the living room is the 1st room you enter after passing through a small enclosed entry on our large front porch we also have the deck 9x25 along the side of our house. We live in a New England seaside community so we live and entertain on the 2 areas all summer, so removing that door wouldn’t work. We have a family room off the other end of the deck with a slider. We use the living room for holidays and when company is here I bring in some chairs but there just is no room. I would love to seat 6 comfortably and have a TV tucked in somewhere for the times when grandkids are here or my husband and I don’t want to watch same thing. Other than that, it is the main road through my house! Ugh. Deco, I have attempted to break up this long room by centering love seat opposite fireplace which also allows tv viewing. Put the desk area and storage of grandkids arts and crafts stuff there. Maybe less bulky furniture would free up some space. I did have the tv on a lovely cedar chest but last year put it in that stand in order to confine the chachkis to one space. Lol. Any other spot for TV? We just converted from oil to gas, FP, so plan on converting the fireplace too. Do use it sometimes in winter. Took out the wall between dining and kitchen years ago and it is right next to fam room so not sure how that would work. And you hit the nail on the head with the wall space. Would be happy losing or gaining any furniture if it helps. Only room in my house I hate and it’s the 1st anyone sees. Thanks for replying and all ideas. I really appreciate...See Morehow would you arrange this living room??
Comments (20)I'd wall mount the TV left of the FP on an articulated arm so there wouldn't be as much glare from the windows. Center the rug with the TV wall. Put the chaise sofa at the end of the room facing the TV with the chaise by the windows.Rug should be under the front 1/3 of the seat side and completely under the chaise. leaving at least a foot of rug extending past the two ends. You may be able to add an arc floor lamp to arch over the sofa and hover above a coffee table. Add a pair of chairs right of the FP with a table and lamp between them. They'll probably be completely off the rug....See MoreHelp me fix /decorate my my living room into Eclectic and yet cosy.
Comments (34)Don't move the credenza then. Get an area rug, center one group of seating around fireplace and conversation and then maybe get a tea cart or something and put a small chair or two around that near the doors/windows to the outside. You can sit and sip your tea and watch the birdies outside there in the winter! When the weather gets nice you can carry the chairs out to the deck to sit in the sun! Then roll the cart out there with some cocktails later in the day!...See MoreCelery. Visualization, Rendering images
