Mid Century Modern open floor plan...design ideas? Please help me!!!!!
Comments (6)This is my living room....11ft wide by 19ft long (from the stairwell.) We are struggling to find a furniture plan that will work with this long and open living room. The picture is taken from the front door entry. On the left wall (which you cannot see) is a large living room window 4'x8'. We are hoping to have a built-in constructed wall to wall on the far end of the living room. Cabinets on the bottom, shelving on the top, and an opening for our media. We need the storage for our young family of five. Around the stairwell to the right is an open doorway to the kitchen. On the far back right is the dining room--which is open to the kitchen. Right now we have a very small sofa (~50") floating at the closer end of the room. Two chairs are to the left under the window. It works but it feels like a waiting room! I'd like to have a console table on the narrow wall to the right (between the opening to the dining room and walkway to the kitchen.) I'd like to have this room sit 4-5 people as we're planning on finishing the basement to represent more of a lounge space for the family....See Morelooking for open concept floor plan
Comments (4)OP - I doubt you'll get much help with such an open-ended question. There are thousands of plans out there for 2000 sq ft homes, but whether they would suit you or not is impossible to say because whether or not a house "works" or not is dependent on a whole range of factors specific to you. Things like family size, location, topography of the land, stylistic preferences and of course budget all need to be cosidered. For example, I live in a 2000 sq ft contemporary house which works well for 2 seniors and for the very small, very narrow city lot it sits on, but would be ridiculous on a 2 acre plot in the country, unsuitable for a growing family, a nightmare for a lover of traditional homes and unaffordable for someone with the budget for a starter home. What I'm saying is, just pointing you to an on line plan would be a waste of everyone's time until you yourself have a clearer idea of what you want....See MoreNeeding to put in a stairway right in the middle of an open floor plan
Comments (27)The biggest problem for me is the property around here is not easy to come by. The lots are all very small because of Lake Erie. You either have to build a two story home to have space or a very small one story. The other alternative is putting a manufactured home on the lot; which is what is on the lot now. We want to donate it to a veterans group and have it moved off of the property in order to build a house. The mobile home sits so high, we are going to put a small lift in so I can get up to the porch easier until we get everything ready to begin building. The population up here triples in the summers. Many million dollar homes sit empty all winter. We are up here all year and we are on a much tighter budget, so we have to make due with the small lot. Fortunately, we don’t care about boating because we are too busy working making canvas enclosures for other people’s boats. I have only been up here 3 years. I grew up in central Ohio, but lived the last 40 years in Little Rock, Arkansas, so all of this is new for me. I appreciate all of your Suggestions and they have helped Me know where I nred to get more information before going to an architect. I don’t want to end up with something I won’t be happy with....See Moreorganic modern/warm minimalist open floor plan
Comments (106)The image with two 24x36 is not quite it. Too small. I can't decide if three will be the right proportions. I'm assuming you're using hangers that have been left there, as the bottoms of the art are too low. You could put painter's tape in the finished size on the wall to get an idea of the scale. Taller? def wider, more square?...See MoreOctavia Jones
